eric.ed.gov har udgivet: In this paper we report on a study of the implementation of handheld game consoles (HGCs) in 10 Year four/five classrooms to develop student automaticity of mathematical calculations. The automaticity of mathematical calculations was compared for those students using the HGC and those being taught using traditional teaching methods. Over a school term, students (n = 236) who used the HGCs and Dr Kawashima’s Brain Training showed significant improvement in both the speed and accuracy of their mathematical calculations. Data collected in interviews during the intervention period from students, staff and parents were analysed to provide further information on the implementation and efficacy of this approach. This exploration identified that the HGCs contributed to positive learning, motivational, and efficiency outcomes. These findings highlight opportunities for using commercially… Continue Reading →

eric.ed.gov har udgivet: Science Olympiad (SO) is a national non-profit organization which holds science competitions for students in grades 7-12 within 50 states with each event aligned to Next Generation Science Standards (NGSS, 2010). The purpose of this article is not only to align the Common Core State Standards in Mathematics (CCSSM) with Science Olympiad events, but also to determine Webb’s Depth of Knowledge Levels (DOK) within the mathematics content. This alignment was achieved by utilizing a content analysis and the Depth of Knowledge alignment processes (Webb, 1999). The findings in this study indicate there are a significant number of SO events that are aligned to the CCSSM with high levels of Depth of Knowledge within the Division B (grades 6-8) and C (grades 9-12) events. eric.ed.gov har udgivet: This study employed survey method for exploring views of teachers toward science, technology, reading, engineering, arts and math science, technology, reading, engineering, arts and math (STREAM) education. Primary teachers were asked their views through questionnaires after STREAM education workshop. Results revealed that teachers have holistic view and having positive view towards STREAM education even though all of them are not science or mathematics teachers. Change in belief and way of practices can allow teachers to do STREAM education in every classroom, design-based learning and creative classroom should be promoted as well. However, holistic view will be more effective into classroom, technology and other supporting learning environments should be prepared. Link til kilde

eric.ed.gov har udgivet: Strengthening knowledge and skills in mathematics is critically important to preparing the next generation of innovators, problem solvers, and interdisciplinary thinkers. School-based agricultural education offers a valuable context to co-develop mathematics knowledge and skills alongside knowledge and skills in agriculture, food, and natural resources. The current study explored the role of school-based agricultural education teachers in facilitating interdisciplinary agriculture, food, natural resources, and mathematics learning experiences. Findings suggest teachers possessed positive attitudes, supportive subjective norms, high levels of perceived behavioral control, and moderate to high perceptions of mathematics knowledge. Additionally, teachers intended to teach mathematics content in an average of 24.51% of agriculture, food, and natural resources curriculum. However, in modeling the intentions of school-based agricultural education teachers to teach math, the combination of attitude toward the… Continue Reading →
