MendelWeb is constructed from Gregor Menders 1865 paper, “Experiments in Plant Hybridization”. An English translation of Mendel’s paper, which is considered to mark the birth of classical and evolutionary genetics, is presented as an active document, with links to traditional reference material (e.g. glossaries, biographies, and the original German text) as well as images, tutorials, active commentaries, related Web sites, and animations. eric.ed.gov har udgivet: The Cornell University (New York) Cornell Theory Center (CTC), a national center for high performance computing, has created the award-winning Math and Science Gateway for grades 9-12 resources from the World Wide Web, organized in a fashion familiar to both educators and students, with links to resources in the areas of mathematics, computing, biology, chemistry, the earth, the ocean, the environment, meteorology, health, medicine, engineering, astronomy, and physics. The section for secondary school teachers contains information on curriculum, software for the classroom, and Internet access in the schools. eric.ed.gov har udgivet: This publication describes features of the South Central Kansas Elementary Math-Science (SOCKEMS) project developed as a child-centered program, although the actual teaching materials and methods are not described. Materials are presented in such a way that children learn science by using their perceptual ability to great extent. Considerable emphasis is placed on concrete, tangible, observable investigative activities. Inservice teacher workshops to orient teachers with the methods and materials are provided. Evaluation of the program showed considerable student success related to short term and long term achievement and attitudinal changes. This work was prepared under an ESEA Title III contract. eric.ed.gov har udgivet: This book is an outgrowth of a 2-year study of 284 children discovered during preschool or kindergarten to be advanced in mathematics. In addition to psychometric and cognitive testing conducted at the beginning, middle, and end of the study, half of the children attended biweekly interventions designed to enrich their experience with mathematics. Results found the children remained advanced in math over the 2-year period, their spatial reasoning related more closely to their math reasoning than did their verbal reasoning, and the math scores of the boys started and remained higher than those of the girls. The intervention proved effective in enhancing mathematical reasoning. Six topics related to the career education concept are featured. “Sample Math Problems” was written for a class studying about jobs in a bakery, and the problems are ones that would be encountered in a bakery. “Careers as Related to Math” is a sample of how career education can be effectively correlated and integrated into math texts (Elementary School Mathematics published by Addison-Wesley) for grades 4, 5, and 6.
