To explore main factors affecting students’ differential equations problem solving ability, articles for a 19-year period, from 1996 to 2015, were critically reviewed and analyzed. It was revealed that combination of four factors; “epistemological math problem solving beliefs, belief about usefulness of mathematics, self-regulated learning (SRL) strategies and goal orientations” have great potential to enhance differential equation problem ability. Based on these findings, a conceptual model was developed and presented in this paper to enhance differential equation problem solving ability. The current study examined time spent in child- and teacher-managed contexts and the nature of children’s experiences with teachers in these contexts as they relate to children’s skill development. Participants were preschool children (N = 283, M age = 52 months, 48% girls, 70% Mexican or Mexican American) from families of a lower socioeconomic status. Observations captured children’s time in child- and teacher-managed contexts and experiences with teachers in each context. School readiness was assessed directly and through teacher reports. The deeper intention was to perceive new information in order to develop supportive methods that could better correspond to teachers’ reality. Eight voluntary Finnish secondary school chemistry teachers participated in semi-structured interviews. Four categorial distinctions for successful chemistry teaching were found according to their beliefs: 1) to have more support and resources, 2) to be able to recognize students’ problems, 3) to use supportive materials and methods, and 4) to connect theory and practice with inspiring and meaningful activities. Participants were selected from secondary teachers who were teaching CS courses or content in a school setting (public, private, or charter) or an after-school program during the time of data collection. This is a qualitative study using CS teachers’ discussions in the Computer Science Teachers Association’s (CSTA) email listserv, responses to open-ended questions in a questionnaire, and discussions in follow-up interviews.
