eric.ed.gov har udgivet: “Children’s Choices,” a project of a joint committee supported by the International Reading Association (IRA) and the Children’s Book Council, is published annually in “The Reading Teacher.” Books recommended by children are grouped by levels: Beginning Reader (ages 5-7); Young Readers (ages 8-10); and Advanced Readers (ages 11-13). Books listed at the Beginning Reader level and Young Reader level of “Children’s Choices” from 1996 through 2006 were analyzed for support of specific curriculum areas. Books related to language arts, math, social studies, and science were categorized and listed according to Louisiana content standards for prekindergarten, kindergarten, first, second, and third grade. Using a sample of mathematicians, researchers surveyed 112 students and faculty at four Canadian university institutions to explore self-perceived success rates, resources consulted, databases used, use of social media, and citation management systems. Further, 12 follow-up interviews were completed with mathematicians to better interpret survey results, resulting information-seeking behaviors, choices, strategies, and feelings on keeping up to date with information needs. These transition curricula are typically full-year, high school credit-bearing courses taken by students at risk of being placed into developmental (also known as remedial) courses upon enrollment in college. In many cases, students who successfully complete a transition course are officially designated as “college ready” and therefore bypass developmental education altogether. Educators who are interested in developing transition courses currently have limited information about how others have done so. A mixed-methods approach is used to study cultural values that affect this choice. The quantitative part of the study shows that being female is negatively correlated with the choice for the NT-profile, irrespective of the grade average for mathematics, chemistry and physics. It further shows that students’ ethnic background does not have a significant effect on this choice. In this study, we investigated the effects of within-activity choices offered during math by third-grade teachers to participating students with behavioral and academic needs. We utilized a professional development model to train teachers to implement instructional choice in the classroom while collecting direct observation data on student’s academic engagement. Teachers were able to implement practices with high levels of integrity and collect momentary time sampling data on one student with high levels of reliability. Using a withdrawal design, we found no clear functional relation between instructional choice and increases in student’s academic engagement.
