Eric.ed.gov – Problem Solving: The “Wright” Math. The Centennial of Flight Special Edition. An Educator Guide with Activities in Mathematics, Science, and Technology. NASA CONNECT[TM].

eric.ed.gov har udgivet: NASA CONNECT is an annual series of integrated mathematics, science, and technology instructional distance learning programs for students in grades 6-8. This program is designed for students to learn about the evolution of flight. The program has three components–television broadcast, Web activity, and lesson guide–which are designed as an integrated instructional package. Students learn how the Wright Brothers became the first human beings to successfully design, construct, and fly an airplane and which method the Wright Brothers used in designing their airplane. Students also observe NASA engineers and researchers using problem-solving skills to design wings that will change their shape during flight. By conducting hands-on and Web activities, students make connections between NASA research and the mathematics, science, and technology they learn in the classroom. The educator… Continue Reading

Eric.ed.gov – Promoting Effective Early Learning: What Every Policymaker and Educator Should Know

eric.ed.gov har udgivet: Language and literacy skills are critical to success in school. For low-income preschoolers, increasing early literacy and math skills is vital to closing the achievement gap between them and their more advantaged peers. New research shows that an intentional curriculum and professional development and supports for teachers are important components of effective preschool classrooms and programs. A special focus on these strategies is important because many low-income children in early learning settings fall behind early and remain very much behind their peers in reading and math. This brief provides a blueprint for state and local policymakers, early learning administrators, teachers, families, community leaders, and researchers to use effective preschool curricula and teaching strategies to help low-income young children close the achievement gap in early literacy and math… Continue Reading

Eric.ed.gov – A Snapshot of Educator Mobility in Montana: Understanding Issues of Educator Shortages and Turnover

eric.ed.gov har udgivet: This study was conducted at the request of education policymakers who participate in the Montana Rural Recruitment and Retention Task Force. Like many states, Montana is struggling to recruit and retain qualified educators, especially in certain subject areas and in more rural parts of the state. The purpose of this study is to provide information that will help the task force address these challenges. Task force members asked REL Northwest to examine the following questions: (1) What is the extent of educator shortages in the state in 2017/18? How do educator shortage patterns vary by characteristics of school systems?; (2) To what extent did educators stay in their position and school system, move to a different position within the school system, move to a different school system,… Continue Reading
