tandfonline.com – Towards signature assessment and feedback practices: a taxonomy of discipline-specific elements of assessment for learning

tandfonline.com har udgivet en rapport under søgningen “Teacher Education Mathematics”: ABSTRACT ABSTRACT Through an extended commentary on the empirical articles in this special issue ‘Signature Assessment and Feedback Practices in the Disciplines’ we elaborate the concepts of signature assessment and signature feedback practices by developing a new taxonomy of their elements. We propose that signature assessments focus on conceptual, epistemological, social, material and/or moral dimensions of the discipline. We also propose four discipline-specific sources of feedback information, particularly highlighting what we are calling consequential feedback, which can be generated by users of disciplinary knowledge or objects. Finally, we identify three levels of feedback timings that can support students’ use of feedback information: rhythms, cycles, and spirals. Based on gaps in the literature in relation to this taxonomy, we identify areas… Continue Reading

Eric.ed.gov – Mathematical Treats Form the Stars: Integrating Curricular Elements through Partnerships between NASA and Math Methods Faculty.

eric.ed.gov har udgivet: Mathematics methods coursework can be an innovative environment through which to emphasize the integration of real-world data structures and opportunities. These opportunities can create instructionally informative opportunities for learners, as well as inform teacher candidates of innovative teaching tools at their fingertips. NASA offers numerous curricular opportunities to the mathematical methods coursework, with work focusing on both PreK-12 learners as well as university learners. Such a wide array of interest levels integrate numerous learning objectives, depending upon the needs and desires of the instructors and learners whom they serve. This paper focuses on the innovative opportunities that the NASA educational entity offers to the PreK-12 as well as university mathematical methods courses. Examples are presented in links to several Web sites, which are developed by and in… Continue Reading

tandfonline.com – Teaching and discussing about risk: seven elements of potential significance for science education

tandfonline.com har udgivet en rapport under søgningen “Teacher Education Mathematics”: ABSTRACT ABSTRACT The present paper takes its point of departure in risk being a relevant content for science education, and that there are many different approaches to how to incorporate it. By reviewing the academic literature on the use and definitions of risk from fields such as engineering, linguistics and philosophy, we identified key elements of the risk concept relevant for science education. Risk is a phenomenon of the future that may be conveyed by our activity, it is something that may or may not take place. Hence, at the core of risk we find uncertainty and consequence. Furthermore, the elements of probability and severity are relevant modifiers of the consequence, as well as both subject to uncertainty. Additionally, in… Continue Reading

tandfonline.com – CIRC and STAD in Iranian context: Through the five elements to cooperative learning of lexical collocations

tandfonline.com har udgivet en rapport under søgningen “Teacher Education Mathematics”: Abstract Abstract Cooperative learning is an approach of teaching and learning that roots in communicative language teaching (CLT). There are five elements that build up the essence of this approach and its methods, namely, positive interdependence, individual accountability, face to face interaction, interpersonal skills, and group processing. Inspired by the gap in the literature, using a mixed-method design, this study attempted to investigate how these elements are at play in the context of Iran, which is relatively individualistic and competitive with regard to the learning culture. In the quantitative phase of the study, the comparative investigation on the impact of Student Teams-Achievement Division (STAD) and Cooperative Integrated Reading and Composition (CIRC) showed CIRC worked significantly better in improving EFL learners’… Continue Reading
