Participating students received instruction in English as a Second Language (ESL); Haitian native language arts (NLA); and the content areas of mathematics, science, and computer science. Multicultural education was an integral part of programming. Teachers of participating students had the opportunity to attend weekly meetings, conferences, and workshops. Project CARISMA sought to establish an active parental component, which included ESL classes and educational field trips. Project CARISMA met its objectives for NLA; the content areas of science and computer science; dropout prevention; attendance; staff development; and parental involvement. Beginning with the Massachusetts Educational Assessment Program for 1992, open-ended questions will be administered to all students and will contribute to school and district scores. It examines class-level information on selected psychological characteristics that students, who read at the fifth-grade level, bring to learning mathematics and that teachers encounter during instruction. Knowledge of relationships of objects in space, grouping of objects, teaching of number names and counting, and the use of math games are discussed. The trainee is encouraged to learn how to plan and develop lessons, games, activities and environmental conditions to teach about objects and their location in space. Both teacher and trainee materials are provided in the module. Teacher materials consist of directions for pre-testing and field supervision, a resource person activity list and directions for each student activity. Natural Math also attempted to integrate Seminole culture into math materials. The project originally included only Seminole preschool and kindergarten children. Later, Boley school, located in a rural Black community, petitioned for inclusion. An ethnographic investigation of schools or departments of education at six universities and six school systems in two southeastern states used document analysis, on-site observation, and interviewing to collect data for analysis of labor market variables. eric.ed.gov har udgivet: The purpose of this study was to determine whether reformed science and math courses at community colleges and universities were impacting education majors as they began a teaching career. The reformed courses, in contrast to typical lecture classes, implemented inquiry-based methods that emphasized deep understanding of fundamental science and math concepts. Trained evaluators, utilizing the Reformed Teaching Observation Protocol (RTOP) gathered a total of 86 classroom observations to gauge the level of reform that beginning teachers (1-3 years teaching experience) were implementing in grades 5-12. The preservice experience of the beginning teachers varied from having had zero to four reform courses. The information presented was acquired by writing to commercial publishers throughout the country. Evaluations included were completed by identifying the usefulness of the curricular offerings for Spanish-speaking adults. Portions of the evaluations are designed for children and junior and senior high school students; some of these have proven useful to adults.
