tandfonline.com – Overcoming methodological challenges due to COVID-19 pandemic in a non-pharmacological caregiver-child randomly controlled trial

tandfonline.com har udgivet en rapport under søgningen “Teacher Education Mathematics”: ABSTRACT ABSTRACT The current situation due to the COVID-19 pandemic has had huge consequences in all aspects of our lives, including the development of research activities. Studies involving face-to-face interaction with people, such as randomized controlled trials, were the first affected. The objective of this article is to present the insights on challenges brought by the COVID-19 pandemic onto an ongoing randomized controlled trial assessing a non-pharmacological intervention carried out with the participation of caregiver-child dyads. Findings contribute to the scarce literature on online synchronous data collection for quantitative studies, when in addition to the data it is necessary to assess observable behaviors. Video-conferencing proved to be a feasible alternative to face-to-face assessment interviews, which require video recording, and should… Continue Reading

Eric.ed.gov – Open Educational Resources for Blended Learning in High Schools: Overcoming Impediments in Developing Countries

eric.ed.gov har udgivet: With today’s computer and telecommunications technologies, every young person can have a quality education regardless of his or her place of birth. This is the dream that Open Educational Resources (OERs), when viewed as a right rather than a privilege, are directed to realize. For developing countries, we propose a type of OER initiative that leverages not only technology but also the skills of the in-class teacher, that utilizes not only the Internet but also lower-tech delivery platforms, and that is created not only by developed countries of the West but also by educators in many countries worldwide. We outline the design of a cross-border, collaborative learning and teaching system called the Blended Learning Open Source Science or Math Studies Initiative (BLOSSOMS), with an associated partnership network… Continue Reading

Eric.ed.gov – The Impact of Overcoming Fixation and Gender on Divergent Thinking in Solving Maths Problems

eric.ed.gov har udgivet: The impact of fixation in solving math problems and that of gender on divergent thinking has been studied in this paper. The study was made in the academic year of 2006-2007, Fall Semester, at Necatibey Faculty of Education, Balikesir University. 229 first and second-year students at the Dept of Primary Math Teaching have been participated in the study. 70% of the prospective mathematics teachers have been found to be fixed in problem solving. There is no meaningful difference between the scores of those with fixation and those without fixation but the scores of those who have fixation in solving problems are slightly higher than the others. The impact of gender has been studied as a factor on divergent thinking but it has not been found to have… Continue Reading

tandfonline.com – Mentoring Undergraduate Research in Statistics: Reaping the Benefits and Overcoming the Barriers

tandfonline.com har udgivet en rapport under søgningen “Teacher Education Mathematics”: Abstract Abstract Undergraduate research experiences (UREs), whether within the context of a mentor-mentee experience or a classroom framework, represent an excellent opportunity to expose students to the independent scholarship model. The high impact of undergraduate research has received recent attention in the context of STEM disciplines. Reflecting a 2017 survey of statistics faculty, this article examines the perceived benefits of UREs, as well as barriers to the incorporation of UREs, specifically within the field of statistics. Viewpoints of students, faculty mentors, and institutions are investigated. Further, the article offers several strategies for leveraging characteristics unique to the field of statistics to overcome barriers and thereby provide greater opportunity for undergraduate statistics students to gain research experience.
