The national administration of President Jair Bolsonaro has failed to provide clear guidance for the population on how to act in times of a crisis; beyond that, he has exacerbated the health crisis by spreading false or misleading information and hiding official numbers and data. Digital methods of communication have attenuated that problem. This article contextualises the emergence of Radio Alice in relation to the Movement of 1977; the avant-garde political magazine A/Traverso, which had been published since 1975 by the collective that founded Radio Alice; and the international history of community radio. I then show how Radio Alice’s approach to broadcasting drew from these three contexts in seeking to unseat the logic of capitalism and replace it with a celebration of desire. The dataset includes 5746 observations and 26 variables. In the body of the paper article, we describe how the cleaned version of the dataset can be used in an introductory or second-level statistics course to investigate questions of race and gender bias and the role of radio consultants in Top 40 radio airplay in the 1960s.
