Eric.ed.gov – The Innovation of Learning Trajectory on Multiplication Operations for Rural Area Students in Indonesia

eric.ed.gov har udgivet: The rural area’s student difficulties in learning the concept of number operation had been documented by several studies, especially for the case of multiplication. The teacher typically introduces the multiplication concepts using the formula without involving the concept itself. Furthermore, this study aims to design learning trajectory on multiplication operations in the Mathematics of GASING (Math GASING) by focusing more on the concept itself than the formula and by starting from the informal to a formal level of teaching. Design research used as the research method to solve this problem consisting of three phases, namely preliminary design, teaching experiment, and retrospective analysis. The research results show that the Math GASING has a real contribution for students to understanding and mastering in the concept of the multiplication operations.… Continue Reading

Eric.ed.gov – The Right Trajectory: State Teachers of the Year Compare Former and New State Assessments

eric.ed.gov har udgivet: “The Right Trajectory” brings to the forefront an often-overlooked voice in the debate about new state assessments developed in consortia: that of the best teachers in the country. This research suggests, despite challenges still to overcome, that these front-line experts believe that the new consortia tests are an improvement on the former assessments and so represent movement in the right direction for students and for education in their states. What do great teachers think of the new assessments compared to the previous ones? As part of state transitions to college and career ready (CCR) standards, including the Common Core State Standards in more than 40 states (NGA & CCSSO, 2010), states are for the first time administering new summative assessments aligned to those standards and aiming for… Continue Reading

Eric.ed.gov – Changing the Developmental Trajectory in Early Math through a Two-Year Preschool Math Intervention

eric.ed.gov har udgivet: There is a national need for effective interventions to improve school readiness and subsequent achievement in mathematics for students from low-income families. The purpose of this study was to implement and evaluate a 2-year preschool math intervention that began at preschool entry when children were 3 years of age and continued through the end of the pre-kindergarten (pre-K) year. Three principal objectives will be addressed in this presentation: (1) to evaluate the efficacy of a math curriculum for 3-year-olds implemented in the pre-pre-kindergarten (pre-pre-K) year of preschool; (2) to compare the impact of a 2-year math intervention (implemented during pre-pre-K and pre-K years) with a 1-year math intervention (PK) or a business-as-usual control condition on children’s mathematical knowledge at the end of preschool; and (3) to examine… Continue Reading
