tandfonline.com – Merit pay, case-by-case: Variables affecting student achievement, teacher retention, and the problem of standardized tests

tandfonline.com har udgivet en rapport under søgningen “Teacher Education Mathematics”: Abstract Abstract This study encompasses the history, definition, and implementation of merit pay to identify the variables that affect student achievement and teacher retention. By reviewing 13 studies on American education relevant to the policy, this study aims to determine how merit pay influenced student achievement and teacher retention rates. In the United States of America (USA), merit pay effectively improves student achievement and teacher retention rates under certain circumstances. However, this policy could also be ineffectual. An analysis of a review of 13 studies identified the variables that affected student achievement and teacher retention. These include year, location, policy duration, merit pay type, students’ grade level, and participating teachers’ ethnicities. The conclusions drawn from this study suggest implementing an… Continue Reading

Eric.ed.gov – Process Dimensions of Child Care Quality and Academic Achievement: An Instrumental Variables Analysis

eric.ed.gov har udgivet: Child care quality is usually measured along two dimensions–structural and process. In this paper the authors focus on process quality–the quality of child care center instructional practices and teacher interactions with students. They use an instrumental variables technique to estimate the effect of child care center process quality on academic achievement for children. They use a national data set, focusing on low-income children, to examine the effects of high process quality child care on math, reading and vocabulary outcomes for preschool children. The goal is to discover the causal effect of process quality on children’s academic outcomes in the preschool years. The present study is an analysis of secondary data collected at different sites around the country, which is described in detail here. Data from the Preschool… Continue Reading

Eric.ed.gov – Instructional Variables of Inclusive Elementary Classrooms in Turkey

eric.ed.gov har udgivet: The purpose of this study is twofold: to determine the instructional variables of the inclusive classrooms in Turkey and to investigate to what extent the student behaviors change according to eco-behavioral characteristics of inclusive classrooms. The study group consisted of 44 students between the ages of six and 12 with mild disabilities who were placed in regular classrooms and their teachers. The Turkish version of the Code for Instructional Structure and Student Academic Response-Mainstream Version (MS-CISSAR) was used for data collection which was based on a momentary time-sampling. The results of molar analysis indicated that the student behaviors displayed the most were no academic response, no task management, and no competing response. Attention and academic talk were found to be the teacher behaviors displayed the most during… Continue Reading

Eric.ed.gov – Exploring Relationships between Personal Variables, Programmatic Variables, and Self-Efficacy in School-Based Agricultural Education

eric.ed.gov har udgivet: The educational importance of teacher self-efficacy necessitates research into variables presumed to significantly influence teacher self-efficacy. In the current study, the role of personal and programmatic variables on the self-efficacy of school-based agriculture teachers was explored. Self-efficacy was measured in five aspects of the agriculture teaching profession: (a) classroom management, (b) instructional strategies, (c) leadership, (d) science teaching, and (e) math teaching. Early career agriculture teachers in five western states were used as the population for the study. Backward deletion model selection was completed for each of the five self-efficacy areas and multiple linear regression was used to analyze final models. The number of teachers within an agriculture program, years of teaching experience, number of students in the agriculture program, science credit being offered, and CASE certification… Continue Reading

Eric.ed.gov – Examining the Speaking Self-Efficacy of Pre-Service Teachers Concerning Different Variables

eric.ed.gov har udgivet: Purpose: This study was conducted to examine the speaking self-efficacy of pre-service teachers concerning different variables. Self-efficacy indicates the belief of an individual concerning the capacity of fulfilling a certain task. Self-efficacy perceptions strongly affect almost all dimensions of an individual’s life, the choices made, the efforts made in achieving a goal and the degree of anxiety. The ability of pre-service teachers to reach this awareness level in the speaking skill may affect their future life, education and business life positively. Research Methods: This study was conducted with the participation of 499 students receiving education in the Departments of Computer and Instructional Technologies, Science Education, Maths Education, Preschool Education, Classroom Education, Psychological Counseling and Guidance (PCG), Social Studies Education and Turkish Education at Kirsehir Ahi Evran University… Continue Reading
