eric.ed.gov har udgivet: The purpose of this study is to compare the results achieved when a computer-managed learning program is used in high school mathematics classes with the results achieved when traditional teaching strategies are utilized. The control groups for Pre-algebra, Algebra 1, and Geometry received traditional classroom instruction. The intervention groups received individualized instruction as their progress through the predetermined objectives were assessed and managed using a computer software package. Following the pre-tests, 3 and a half months of treatment and post-tests, major differences were found. The intervention group showed significantly larger gains in achievement than the control group. Changes in student attitudes were also observed. Computer-managed learning systems appeared to be an effective method for teaching mathematics to high school students. It targets 6th, 7th, and 8th grade low-achieving migrant students who are 2 to 4 years behind their language peer group. Two questions guided the second year evaluation study for the Region IX Migrant Education program: (1) How successful was the training provided to migrant students in science and math?, and (2) Did the attitude of participating migrant students change towards science and math? AM provides teachers with an information system that assures that students can master all math objectives and state standards from grade 3 through calculus. The software can be used in conjunction with the existing math curriculum to add practice components and aid teachers in differentiating instruction via the program’s progress-monitoring data. The What Works Clearinghouse (WWC) reviewed 32 studies on “Accelerated Math”[TM].
