eric.ed.gov har udgivet: This validity study examined the validity of Assessment, Evaluation, and Programming System, 2nd Edition (AEPS®), a curriculum-based, authentic assessment for infants and young children. The primary purposes were to: a) examine whether the AEPS® is a concurrently valid tool for measuring young children’s language, literacy and pre-math skills for accountability purpose and b) explore teachers’ perceptions on using authentic assessment and standardized tests. This was accomplished through implementing both quantitative and qualitative methods. High school students have diverse and partially wrong concepts of scientists’ work. To convey more realistic concepts, we developed videos of scientists working on relevant and up to date scientific topics. These videos, covering different work fields of scientists, were integrated into experimental stations as part of the student lab. Half of the participating students performed the experimental part only (n = 117), whereas the other half of students (n = 119) additionally watched the videos. The results of a pre-post comparison show significant increases for previously underestimated work fields, such as artistic (d = 0.94) and social (d = 0.51) aspects, for the video group. The second function is the evaluation of data by teaching candidates of 13 commonly used math sites by middle and elementary teachers. Research and data collection are combined with the authentic activity of evaluating mathematics websites using critical review and evaluation tools. eric.ed.gov har udgivet: The purpose of this study is to outline a partnership program that involved a local elementary school district, an institution of higher education, the local business community, and a state economic education advocacy group to integrate economics into math in grades K-5. The “Economics: Math in Real Life” program was provided in collaboration with a Title I program to integrate economics and personal finance content into mathematics instruction to demonstrate real-life applications of math concepts and increase students’ knowledge in this content area. Pretests and posttests were administered to gauge effectiveness of the authentic instruction program in increasing student knowledge in math and economics and teacher knowledge in economics.
