eric.ed.gov har udgivet: This study focuses on understanding the implementation of three interactive digital products in the first-year foundational courses (General Chemistry, Physics I & II, Calculus I & II) at the Faculty of Engineering, and the perceptions of teaching and learning experiences with those products. The data were gathered from the instructors, students and Distance Education Unit Coordinator through in-depth interview of purposeful sample of the academics, student online survey and product platform usage data. The study reveals the nuances of the institutional change prompted by the initiatives for advancing teaching and learning through the integration of technology. The study findings are discussed through themes that address the benefits of integrating digital products as well as challenges experienced by the instructors, students, and by the institution during this period… Continue Reading →

Abstract A version control system records changes to a file or set of files over time so that changes can be tracked and specific versions of a file can be recalled later. As such, it is an essential element of a reproducible workflow that deserves due consideration among the learning objectives of statistics courses. This paper describes experiences and implementation decisions of four contributing faculty who are teaching different courses at a variety of institutions. Each of these faculty… Continue Reading →

In conventional lecture-based teaching, students might avoid asking for academic help from teachers, which weakens the student–teacher relationship and distances students from the faculty. To decrease distance and ease integration, more student-centred methods are widely adopted. This article concerns the use of specific tutors and a learning space called Math Shack in engineering mathematics teaching and learning at Tampere University in Finland. The… Continue Reading →

sciencedirect.com har udgivet: Highlights • Three technologies were used to develop three components of noticing expertise in mathematics pedagogy courses. • Three-point Framework including Key point, Difficult point, and Critical point was incorporated into technology intervention. • Effects of using Three-point framework along with technology on development of noticing expertise were assessed. • The goal of these interventions was to incorporate noticing expertise as a regular professional practice. Abstract This study investigated effects of employing the Three-point framework (Key Point, Difficult Point, Critical Point) and three technology-aided interventions (online discussions, clinical interviews, and graphic lesson plan construction) on developing preservice teachers’ noticing skills in elementary mathematics pedagogy courses. Pre- and post-intervention assessments revealed significant improvement in the treatment group’s scores, and two case studies illustrated how the interventions can help… Continue Reading →
