Eric.ed.gov – Probability & Statistics: Modular Learning Exercises. Teacher Edition

eric.ed.gov har udgivet: The purpose of these modules is to provide an introduction to the world of probability and statistics to accelerated mathematics students at the high school level. The modules also introduce students to real world math concepts and problems that property and casualty actuaries come across in their work. They are designed to be used by teachers and students of AP courses (primarily AB and BC Calculus) after the AP exam, but of course they can be used at any time. Statistical thinking is critical in today’s society. Data are everywhere and students will see and recognize misinterpretations all the time. “Probability & Statistics: Modular Learning Exercises” cover: (1) Basic Statistics Concepts; (2) The Normal Model; (3) Discrete Probability Distributions; and (4) Correlation and Regression. Abstract Computer-assisted assessment (CAA) is widely used in modern university courses in many different fields. It can be used both in formative and summative assessments and with different emphasis on (self-)training, grading, and feedback generation. This article reports on experiences from using the CAA tool “JACK” to support a university lecture on mathematical statistics for exercises, tests, and exams. We show and discuss, among others, a positive relationship between usage intensity of JACK and final grades. Moreover, students generally… Continue Reading

tandfonline.com – More Questions and Fewer Contexts: Designing Exercises for Statistics Courses

tandfonline.com har udgivet en rapport under søgningen “Teacher Education Mathematics”: Abstract Formulae display:?Mathematical formulae have been encoded as MathML and are displayed in this HTML version using MathJax in order to improve their display. Uncheck the box to turn MathJax off. This feature requires Javascript. Click on a formula to zoom. Abstract Over the past 30 years, the way in which the first course in statistics has been taught has moved away from a mathematics mode to take account of the distinctiveness of statistics. This article considers exercises for the typical introductory course and gives some evidence that many of these look like somewhat expanded versions of mathematics course exercises, and are thus less than optimal given the goals of statistics education. The article contends that exercises for statistics courses… Continue Reading
