tandfonline.com – Learning transfer through industrial simulator training: Petroleum industry case

tandfonline.com har udgivet en rapport under søgningen “Teacher Education Mathematics”: Abstract Abstract Efficient teamwork skills, high level of complex process knowledge and a vast set of operational abilities are essential for safe and economical operation in process industries. During the past decade, human factors have emerged as a strong research area in industrial simulator training, where traditionally focus is in the engineering technology. However, publications on the pedagogical aspects are still very few. In Norway, simulator training is one mandatory work-place training activity for process operators in the petroleum industry. In this study, we examine the industrial simulator training practices from the pedagogical perspective of learning transfer. We ask: How do different simulator training course designs, artefacts and practices promote learning? How can the successful practices be enhanced further? The… Continue Reading

Uncheck the box to turn MathJax off. This feature requires Javascript. Click on a formula to zoom. Abstract Teaching some concepts in statistics greatly benefits from individual practice with immediate feedback. In order to provide such practice to a large number of students we have written a simulator based on an historical event: the loss in May 22, 1968, and subsequent search for the nuclear submarine USS Scorpion. Students work on a simplified version of the search and can see probabilities change in response to new evidence. The simulator is designed to assist in the teaching… Continue Reading

tandfonline.com – The revised Tennessee Eastman process simulator as testbed for SPC and DoE methods

tandfonline.com har udgivet en rapport under søgningen “Teacher Education Mathematics”: Abstract Abstract Engineering process control and high-dimensional, time-dependent data present great methodological challenges when applying statistical process control (SPC) and design of experiments (DoE) in continuous industrial processes. Process simulators with an ability to mimic these challenges are instrumental in research and education. This article focuses on the revised Tennessee Eastman process simulator providing guidelines for its use as a testbed for SPC and DoE methods. We provide flowcharts that can support new users to get started in the Simulink/Matlab framework, and illustrate how to run stochastic simulations for SPC and DoE applications using the Tennessee Eastman process.
