Eric.ed.gov – iLEAP Assessment Guide-Revised Grade 7: English Language Arts, Math, Science, Social Studies

eric.ed.gov har udgivet: “Louisiana Believes” embraces the principle that all children can achieve at high levels, as evidenced in Louisiana’s recent adoption of the Common Core State Standards (CCSS). “Louisiana Believes” also promotes the idea that Louisiana’s educators should be empowered to make decisions to support the success of their students. In keeping with these values, the Department has created transitional assessment guides to help prepare teachers and students as they transition to the new CCSS over the next two years. These guides reflect the State’s commitment to consistent and rigorous assessments and provide educators and families with clear information about expectations for student performance. The iLEAP Assessment Guide provides an overview of Louisiana assessments administered through the integrated Louisiana Educational Assessment Program (iLEAP). In addition to providing teachers with… Continue Reading

Eric.ed.gov – Changing the Equation: Ensuring the Common Core Math Standards Enable All Students to Excel in California Schools. K-12 Practice

eric.ed.gov har udgivet: Schools around California are implementing the new Common Core State Standards. In math specifically, where significant disparities in proficiency exist for African American, Latino, and low-income students as compared to their white, Asian and higher-income peers, these new standards provide an opportunity to close achievement and opportunity gaps. Our new report, “Changing the Equation Ensuring the Common Core Math Standards Enable All Students to Excel in California Schools”, describes both the challenges districts face in implementing the new math standards and best practices for addressing these challenges. Specific examples include ways to create a culture of high expectations for all students, models for supporting teachers as they design and implement rigorous curriculum, and strategies for meaningfully engaging students and parents with the standards. In highlighting practices from… Continue Reading

Eric.ed.gov – Implementation of Kentucky’s Learning Standards in English Language Arts and Math: Insights, Innovations, and Challenges in Six Districts

eric.ed.gov har udgivet: The Center on Standards, Alignment, Instruction, and Learning (C-SAIL), examines through four lines of study to determine how college- and career-readiness (CCR) standards are implemented, if they improve student learning, and what instructional tools measure and support their implementation. This brief presents findings from C-SAIL’s Implementation Study, which uses interview and survey data to explore how district administrators, principals, and teachers are understanding, experiencing, and implementing the Kentucky Academic Standards (KAS) in English language arts (ELA) and math. Examined are how and what kinds of supports are provided to teachers of all students, including students with disabilities (SWDs) and English learners (ELs) who take the general state assessment. Other district characteristics were examined such as percentage of students receiving free or reduced-price lunch, student achievement or growth… Continue Reading

Eric.ed.gov – Where Is the Math in Science Olympiad? Aligning Mathematics Standards to Science Olympiad Events

eric.ed.gov har udgivet: Science Olympiad (SO) is a national non-profit organization which holds science competitions for students in grades 7-12 within 50 states with each event aligned to Next Generation Science Standards (NGSS, 2010). The purpose of this article is not only to align the Common Core State Standards in Mathematics (CCSSM) with Science Olympiad events, but also to determine Webb’s Depth of Knowledge Levels (DOK) within the mathematics content. This alignment was achieved by utilizing a content analysis and the Depth of Knowledge alignment processes (Webb, 1999). The findings in this study indicate there are a significant number of SO events that are aligned to the CCSSM with high levels of Depth of Knowledge within the Division B (grades 6-8) and C (grades 9-12) events. Eric.ed.gov – Educators Collaborating to Improve Mathematics: Three Structures That Mattered in Math in Common Districts

eric.ed.gov har udgivet: For school districts in California, just as one set of revolutionary new content standards is beginning to feel familiar, another deep change is brewing. Districts have now had more than five years to wrestle with how they implement the Common Core State Standards for Mathematics (CCSS-M) (NGA Center & CCSSO, 2010). Many have made large-scale changes in their systems. However, state math assessment scores have remained flat, suggesting that many districts may still be in the early stages of understanding and implementing changes that are necessary to support instruction. This report describes how 10 districts participating in the Math in Common (MiC) initiative have approached implementation of the CCSS-M somewhat differently. To implement their district visions of the CCSS-M, each MiC district’s MiC leadership team developed three… Continue Reading

Eric.ed.gov – Understanding Complex Instructional Change: Classroom Observations of Math in Common Districts

eric.ed.gov har udgivet: Although mathematics standards have changed dramatically in recent years, teaching mathematics is as complex as it has always been. Some would argue that mathematics teaching has become even more complex, with the implementation of the Common Core State Standards for Mathematics (CCSS-M) (NGA Center & CCSSO, 2010), as teachers are being asked to make significant shifts in their instruction. The Math in Common (MiC) initiative was launched to support CCSS-M implementation in grades K-8 in 10 California school districts. As part of its evaluation of MiC, WestEd conducted classroom observations in participating MiC districts to document K-8 teachers’ instructional shifts related to the CCSS-M. The research staff visited elementary and middle school classrooms in nine MiC school districts, during the 2015-16, 2016-17, and 2017-18 academic years, to… Continue Reading
