It also sought to determine the differences between employees’ and employer/supervisors’ perceptions of the degree of importance of mathematics skills for office occupations. Following a review of literature, a preliminary list of business and office mathematics skills was submitted to an advisory committee of business teachers, field tested, and refined into a questionnaire that contained a list of 36 basic mathematics skills and 30 mathematics-related business skills. Job satisfaction is important since it acts as a source of intrinsic motivation encouraging workers to be industrious and efficient. Job satisfaction among workers is likely to contribute to employee happiness, well-being, and retention. On the other hand, job dissatisfaction often leads to high likelihood risks of reducing staff morale, increasing resignations or worker-turnover, and decreased productivity. Using conservation of resources (COR) theory, we propose that HR practices offer job resources which employees reinvest by displaying job crafting behaviours. Since job crafting involves the pro-active redesign of job characteristics by employees, this study advances the idea that employees are pro-active in their response to HRM and translate perceived HRM practice into attitudinal outcomes through displaying pro-active behaviour.
