This interpretive case study of two middle school science-math teachers was driven by the general question: Given ubiquitous computing, how do teachers use computers in constructing curriculum and delivering instruction? Specifically, the researchers sought to examine the facilitators and barriers for teachers in using laptops in the classroom. Using qualitative methods, the researchers collected data during the first year of the Maine Learning Technology Initiative (MLTI). It draws on Tomlinson’s conceptualisation of differentiated instruction to respond to diversity in their classroom. The aim of this study is to document to which extent participating teachers achieved in doing so. A participatory action research design was set up. First teachers were trained to respond to heterogeneity aided by a tailor-made professional development program. Second an implementing period followed in which the participants worked collaboratively in teacher teams and were coached while implementing differentiated instruction. What kinds of leadership moves do principals make to support enactment of new practices? Drawing on leadership theories to examine principals’ leadership actions, data come from a qualitative study of three elementary school principals leading implementation of an ambitious mathematics teaching policy. We found that principals used instructional, facilitative, and positional moves across school settings to support teachers’ enactment. These findings add depth to current conceptions of discipline-specific instructional leadership and raise questions about how principals might make strategic moves based on available expertise and resources. This qualitative case study investigated what kind of support parents need to do online science activities with their children at home. Data consisted of parent’s theme interviews (n=7). As a main result, a model of parents’ need for support was produced. The model contains three dimensions: 1) the affective dimension, 2) the knowledge and skills dimension and 3) the organizational dimension. eric.ed.gov har udgivet: This study, firstly, aimed at investigating the various types of the multiple math representations and transitions among them in the 8th grade math textbook, and secondly, teachers’ use of these representations in teaching. The current study employed the content analysis approach to investigate the multiple mathematical representations and transitions among them in 8th Grade Mathematics Textbook. An observation method was used to analyses the teacher practices (n=35 observations), and record the representations and transitions. The results showed that there was an existence of symbol and verbal representations in the textbook and teachers’ implementation. Meanwhile, the other three representations (pictures and figures, models and Cutters, and life situations) and the transactions between them were at low rates in the textbook and teachers’ implementation.
