tandfonline.com – Preservice teachers’ experiences of pandemic related school closures: anti-structure, liminality and communitas

tandfonline.com har udgivet en rapport under søgningen “Teacher Education Mathematics”: Abstract Initial Teacher Education (ITE) can be viewed as a formative space in professional teacher identity development. Practice plays a key role in shaping teacher identity, providing a window into the reality of school life, as well as nurturing professional autonomy. Due to the Covid-19 pandemic, school life shifted suddenly and unrecognisably in March 2020. This paper focuses on the experiences of preservice teachers on an ITE programme (post-primary) in one Irish University during the period of sudden school closures. The data show the transition to be problematic, underscored by a chaotic pivot to virtual communication and a destabilising of the structures that normally provide consistency. Yet it also presented opportunities and responsibilities. We explore Victor Turner’s work to consider… Continue Reading

tandfonline.com – Student teachers’ criticism of teacher education – through the lens of practice architectures

tandfonline.com har udgivet en rapport under søgningen “Teacher Education Mathematics”: ABSTRACT ABSTRACT This paper explores student teachers’ academic preparation to be teachers. Despite the fact that a persisting criticism is directed towards the ‘academic’ part of teacher education, we know little about student teachers’ academic learning practice as learners in higher education. The paper reports on a Norwegian study of 24 student teachers and shows how the theory of practice architectures can usefully illuminate some of the difficulties students encounter in their initial teacher education. The findings are mainly elaborated in the construction of two student teachers’ stories. Using the theory of practice architectures, we argue that the rationales for student teachers’ criticisms of teacher education are more nuanced than they are commonly presented in the research literature. We also… Continue Reading

tandfonline.com – What Do Middle Grades Preservice Teachers Believe about Writing and Writing Instruction?

tandfonline.com har udgivet en rapport under søgningen “Teacher Education Mathematics”: Abstract Abstract After third grade, students’ motivation and enjoyment of writing begins to wane, and this trend continues through most of their education. Middle grade students especially need high-quality writing instruction; however, many teachers report feeling inadequately prepared to teach writing. To combat these issues, teacher preparation programs should understand how their preservice teachers feel about writing and teaching writing. The present study surveyed 150 middle grade preservice teachers to determine their self-efficacy beliefs about writing and writing instruction. Results indicate that preservice teachers valued writing, but did not feel confident with many specific aspects of writing instruction. Link til kilde

tandfonline.com – Tracing preservice English language teachers’ perceived TPACK in sophomore, junior, and senior levels

tandfonline.com har udgivet en rapport under søgningen “Teacher Education Mathematics”: Abstract Abstract Many teacher education institutes (TEI) are expected to provide preservice teachers (PTs) with the necessary knowledge, skills, and attitudes to teach with information and communication technology (ICT). To address this challenge, many TEIs have included introductory ICT courses in their curriculum to develop technological knowledge and skills. Although several existing studies have focused on detecting whether a course or a short-term training program can make an improvement on PTs’ TPACK, none of the existing studies have attempted to investigate in a longitudinal process whether PTs’ perceived development of TPACK skills follow an increasing linear pattern through years as planned in four-year-long teacher education programs, especially in ELT. This study therefore intends to address this gap in the literature.… Continue Reading
