Eric.ed.gov – Common Core State Standards for Mathematics: Teacher Self-Learning Series. Module 2: Focus and Coherence–The First Two CCSSM Shifts

eric.ed.gov har udgivet: This module examines Focus and Coherence, two of the three shifts required for implementation of the Common Core State Standards for Mathematics (CCSSM). Focus and Coherence are the two major design principles of the math standards. The module assumes prior knowledge of the information presented in Module 1. Course Objectives: By the end of the module, learner will be able to: (1) state the two levels of focus and find examples of each; (2) state the two levels of coherence and find examples of each; (3) use resources to determine major work for a specific grade or course in mathematics; and (3) define “CCSSM stream” and give an example which applies to a grade level or course which is of interest to the learner. Abstract The article examines shifts in the wage premium between respective task-content groups of the labour force in Poland. The parameters of a microeconometric, multilevel model are estimated, and wage premiums for task-content occupation groups are calculated. Individual data from the 2004 to 2016 editions of Structure of Earnings by Occupation (S.E.O.) survey are used. A positive wage premium is reported in the group of non-routine jobs and a negative wage premium in the case of routine jobs, which… Continue Reading

tandfonline.com – Exploring shifts in the characteristics of US government-funded science curriculum materials and their (unintended) consequences

tandfonline.com har udgivet en rapport under søgningen “Teacher Education Mathematics”: Abstract Abstract Grant-funded curriculum development efforts can substantially impact practice and research in science education. Therefore, understanding the sometimes-unintended consequences of changes in grant priorities is crucial. Using the case of two large funding agencies in the United States, the current portfolio review provides insight into these consequences by examining shifts in the characteristics of K-12 science curriculum materials funded during two time periods with differing funding priorities. Findings revealed a move away from comprehensive curricula, increased reliance on technology-based materials, a growing trend towards open access, but also a decrease in teacher supports. While these shifts may enhance teachers’ flexibility to shape curriculum, they also increase the challenge of ensuring curricular coherence. Recommendations are outlined for policymakers, science education… Continue Reading

Eric.ed.gov – Classroom Observations: Documenting Shifts in Instruction for Districtwide Improvement. Formative Evaluation Cycle Report for the Math in Common Initiative, Volume 2

eric.ed.gov har udgivet: Math in Common® (MiC) is a five-year initiative that supports a formal network of 10 California school districts as they implement the Common Core State Standards in Mathematics (CCSS-M) across grades K-8. This research brief explores how best to select or develop and use classroom observation systems in order to document instructional shifts and inform MiC school district improvement efforts. The report is organized into three main sections: (1) An exploration of what the research literature says about existing observation systems and several design considerations for successful observation systems; (2) A detailed discussion of several considerations of these findings for school districts as they implement observation systems in order to better track and understand how teachers are implementing the Common Core State Standards in Mathematics in their… Continue Reading
