tandfonline.com har udgivet en rapport under søgningen “Teacher Education Mathematics”: ABSTRACT ABSTRACT The beginning of primary education is an important time to form a good basis for students to develop their digital competence. However, the use of digital technologies is seldom a part of everyday schoolwork during the first years of primary school education. Furthermore, instruction on digital competence is often loosely connected to the students’ own ideas. Since there is obviously a need to investigate student-initiated involvement, this case study examined six to seven-year-old children’s views and ideas of using digital technology in school lessons through drawings and interviews. The results show that some of the students did not share the idea of using digital technology in their school lessons but most of the students did. In particular, the students expected digital… Continue Reading →

eric.ed.gov har udgivet: This is the fourth biennial report to Congress on the implementation of the “Elementary and Secondary Education Act’s” Title III State Formula Grant Program (also known as the English Language Acquisition State Grants Program). This report provides information reported by states to the U.S. Department of Education regarding services provided for children served under Title III to ensure that all limited English proficient (LEP) students attain English proficiency and are achieving in reading or language arts and in mathematics at the same high level set by the states for all students. Under the State Formula Grant Program, states also are accountable for the education of immigrant children and youth. In this report, the U.S. Department of Education presents data reported by the 50 states, the District of… Continue Reading →

eric.ed.gov har udgivet: The basic rationale for incorporating information about instructional experiences in the design and analysis of assessment data is that student ability, topic exposure, and forms of instructional exposure each contribute to student performance as measured at a given point in time. The purpose of this study is to investigate the degree of consistency of teachers’ content coverage reports with logical expectations about the contents of a course with a given title for two consecutive years and to detect the effects of content coverage by comparing student performance patterns associated with teachers’ reports of content coverage for 1988 and 1989. In this study, analyses were based on teacher and student data from approximately 300 sections of mathematics courses in Pre-Algebra, Math A, Math B, Algebra I, and Geometry.… Continue Reading →

eric.ed.gov har udgivet: The objective of preschool teachers should be to determine the mathematical ability of preschool children and improve their skills using meaningful teaching methods through pictorial demonstration and manipulative models. Children who receive number concept instruction through hands-on play models, activities, and discussion show greater understanding in math skills. Teachers should be striving to create a learning environment for their students and help them fulfill their needs through their playful activities. This paper discusses how to integrate math activities into preschool classrooms. (ASK) Link til kilde

eric.ed.gov har udgivet: When the Connecticut State Department of Education published its first district report cards in 2003, it was obvious that the Hartford Public Schools district was struggling. Fewer than half of its students were proficient on the state reading exam. Math performance was better, but 63 percent of 10th-graders and 43 percent of younger students failed to meet proficiency benchmarks. Compared with the state, Hartford looked even worse; its proficiency rates trailed by as many as 39 percentage points. The arrival of Steven Adamowski as district superintendent in 2006 began a new chapter at Hartford Public Schools (HPS). Within months, Adamowski introduced a plan to improve the quality of a Hartford education. The first pillar was school choice, allowing students’ families to choose the schools their children would… Continue Reading →

ABSTRACT Stability is an important underlying assumption in any form of assessment-supported decision-making. Since early years development is frequently described as unstable, the concept plays a central role in the discussion surrounding early years assessment. This paper describes stability as a set of assumptions about the way individual scores change over time. Here, an analytical framework developed by Tisak and Meredith, which can be used to evaluate these assumptions, is extended and applied to evaluate the stability of mathematics… Continue Reading →
