eric.ed.gov har udgivet: The 2013 study, “The Effectiveness of Secondary Math Teachers from Teach for America and the Teaching Fellows Programs,” examined whether students taught by teachers in the “Teach for America” (“TFA”) and “The New Teacher Project Teaching Fellows” (“Teaching Fellows”) programs had greater mathematics achievement than students taught by teachers who were not in either of these programs. The study was conducted in the 2009-10 and 2010-11 school years. Researchers found that “Teaching Fellows” teachers were no more effective at improving student mathematics achievement scores than comparison teachers. This study is well executed and meets What Works Clearinghouse (WWC) group design standards without reservations. Diagnostic assessments are included among these interventions, designed to help teachers use evidence about student performance to modify and differentiate instruction and improve student outcomes. The mCLASS: Math software (Ginsburg, Cannon, Eisenband, & Pappas, 2006) is comprised of screening/progress monitoring curriculum-based measures (CBMs) and Diagnostic Interviews to help teachers identify students’ skill levels. mCLASS: Math enables teachers to target instruction to each student’s needs and monitor each student’s progress toward mastery. Teachers observe and are observed by their peers a number of times over the course of two years. It was delivered by the Centre for Market and Public Organisation (CMPO) at the University of Bristol. CMPO researchers trained lead teachers from both maths and English departments in participating secondary schools to use RANDA TOWER software (RANDA, 2012), and lead teachers then trained colleagues in their schools. Teachers used the software on a tablet computer to keep a record of classroom observations and to review and collate the data afterwards. This evaluation report examined the fidelity of implementation of Imagine Math® and the associations between its use and student achievement in Houston Independent School District (HISD) secondary schools in the 2018-2019 academic year. Based on teacher results, the research showed that the average levels of adherence to fidelity components were approaching expectations for both middle schools and high schools. At the teacher-level, frequency of use of Imagine Math® by teachers and analysis of the Imagine Math® reports for instructional purposes was low. eric.ed.gov har udgivet: Research indicates that preschool children need to learn pre-math skills to build a foundation for primary- and secondary-level mathematics. This paper presents the results from the early stages of a pilot mathematics program implemented in Cordillera, Paraguay. In a context of significant gaps in teacher preparation and pedagogy, the program uses interactive audio segments that cover the entire preschool math curriculum. Since Paraguayan classrooms tend to be bilingual, the audio and written materials use a combination of Spanish and Guaraní. Based on an experimental evaluation since the program’s implementation, we document positive and significant improvements of 0.16 standard deviations in standardized test scores.
