tandfonline.com har udgivet en rapport under søgningen “Teacher Education Mathematics”: ABSTRACT ABSTRACT This study examined how teachers relate literacy teaching to their ordinary subject teaching in professional development settings. The study is conducted within the large Swedish professional development program the Literacy Boost (in Swedish “Läslyftet”), which can be viewed as an example of an international focus on reading ability beyond early and beginning reading. Such a focus may be well-grounded, but it also raises concerns of how teachers of different school subjects are addressed in such programs. The findings of this study show that participating teachers express four approaches of relating literacy teaching to subject teaching, indicating different types and degrees of coherence between professional development content and teachers’ teaching practice. While all teaching activities described by teachers aimed… Continue Reading →

tandfonline.com har udgivet en rapport under søgningen “Teacher Education Mathematics”: Abstract Abstract This study compares the effectiveness of context clue strategy instruction to wide reading practices in terms of their impact on the vocabulary knowledge of students who read at frustration level. The participants were 44 sixth-grade students from a middle grades school. Students were randomly assigned to experimental and control conditions. The experimental condition students were trained to use context clues to infer meaning from context using a direct instruction method. A contextual vocabulary test consisting of 30 multiple-choice items was used to assess the students’ understanding of the word meanings in context. The results indicated that the experimental condition demonstrated higher levels of improvement in the vocabulary knowledge than the control condition (which practiced a wide reading strategy.… Continue Reading →

eric.ed.gov har udgivet: The Middle-Grades Leadership Development (MLD) Project was designed to develop principal leaders and leadership teams who create high-performing middle-grades schools. Designed by the National Forum to Accelerate Middle-Grades Reform, the four-year project was funded from 2013 to 2017 by a U.S. Department of Education Investing in Innovation (i3) development grant. The project was implemented in 12 middle-grades schools in rural and small town areas of Kentucky and Michigan. Schools received an extensive set of school improvement supports, including: creating a vision using the Forum’s Schools to Watch (STW) criteria; engaging in an assessment and planning process for improvement; STW leadership coach; principal mentor; STW mentor schools; leadership team; networking opportunities; and focused professional development. The evaluation of the MLD Project used a quasi-experimental design (QED) with matched… Continue Reading →

tandfonline.com har udgivet en rapport under søgningen “Teacher Education Mathematics”: Abstract Abstract For the advancement of current and future economic and overall well-being to occur, STEM professionals are highly needed. STEM education is an approach that integrates science, technology, engineering and mathematics curricula into one interdisciplinary curriculum. In the context of STEM education, learners acquire deep and critical thinking abilities, which help them become creative and analytic thinkers, and hence innovators in their careers. For this to happen, the teacher must be trained to successfully design and effectively teach an integrated STEM curriculum. The purpose of this study was to analyze Saudi Arabian science and mathematics teachers’ attitudes toward integrating Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM) in teaching before and after they participated in a short professional development program focused… Continue Reading →

eric.ed.gov har udgivet: In the winter and spring of 2012-2013 the Educational Policy Improvement Center (EPIC) partnered with representatives from the Office of Secondary/Postsecondary Transitions at Oregon Department of Education (ODE) and the Oregon Department of Community Colleges Workforce Development (CCWD) to guide secondary and postsecondary instructors in the development and implementation of formative performance assessments. The instructors recruited for this project included both secondary and postsecondary educators from the fields of Career and Technical Education (CTE), English/language arts (ELA), and mathematics. EPIC’s goal during the project was to create a process for educators to collaboratively develop high-quality performance tasks that are aligned to the Common Core State Standards (CCSS) and are consistent with the Smarter Balanced Assessment Consortium’s (SBAC) model of performance tasks. A group of instructors from across… Continue Reading →

Abstract Reflecting growing emphasis on data analysis and statistical thinking in the information age, mathematics curriculum standards in the U.S. have recently increased expectations for student learning in the domain of statistics and probability. More than 180 teachers in 36 public school districts in Florida applied for a two-week summer institute designed to increase teachers’ content and pedagogical content knowledge in statistics and probability. Individual teachers were assigned at random to a treatment or business-as-usual comparison group. The two-week… Continue Reading →

tandfonline.com har udgivet en rapport under søgningen “Teacher Education Mathematics”: Abstract Abstract The aim of the study has been to describe, analyse and discuss the latest research findings on the professional development that is accomplished through collective and cooperative processes among teachers. The research question addressed in this article is: “In which ways do professional development and learning occur in schools, and which improvements may be identified in the practices of teachers related to professional development and learning?”. The theoretical framework for the research is cultural historical activity theory (CHAT). In the CHAT perspective, knowledge is perceived as constructions of meaning and understanding within social interaction. The social interactions and surroundings are seen as decisive for teachers’ (in this case) learning and development. The main argument is that teachers’ professional… Continue Reading →

eric.ed.gov har udgivet: The National Center for Special Education Research (NCSER) supports research that contributes to the identification of effective strategies for improving the performance of current teachers and other instructional personnel, and related services providers in ways that increase student learning and achievement, social and behavioral skills, and high school transition outcomes for students with or at risk for disabilities. This report presents highlights of NCSER-funded research that: (1) targets teacher data-based decision-making; (2) content area professional development in language, reading and math; (3) professional development for early childhood teachers; (4) professional development for teachers of children with autism spectrum disorders; and (5) tools for evaluating special education teachers. tandfonline.com har udgivet en rapport under søgningen “Teacher Education Mathematics”: Abstract Abstract Supporting the 21st-century learners’ instructional needs is a trend of today’s educational system. This educational design research aimed to develop a Digital Interactive Math Comics (DIMaC) as an instructional material envisioned to meet these learners’ needs to a better understanding of Mathematics concepts. This employed the ADDIE framework for instructional material development design. There were 425 randomly chosen students who took the validated and acceptable with 0.7888 Cronbach’s alpha researcher-made General Mathematics Competency Test. This was done to identify the least learned skills and be the basis for design and development. The initial storyline with the Mathematics contents integrated were validated by the set of experts before the electronic illustrations and coding took place. The initial outputs of… Continue Reading →

Abstract Technological innovation in science provides complementary tools for exploring new teaching strategies within a pedagogical framework that promotes interaction between the teacher and the learner. This work is based on the implementation of a computer application modeling crystallographic material structures, in order to identify and study the different crystalline structures and their characteristics, based on the techniques of three-dimensional modeling covering the OpenGL library and the Euler rotation matrices, and developed by the C # programming language.
