eric.ed.gov har udgivet: The first goal of this study was to examine the impact of nine World Wide Web-based learning modules on learning as measured on both online module quizzes and in-class exams. The modules were designed to support fundamental concepts in entry-level college mathematics courses. The second and third goals of this study were to determine the learner characteristics and strategies that affect student performance on the nine Web-based learning modules. Data sources included: a demographic survey; nine Web-based instructional module quizzes; three in-class quizzes; three in-class, paper-based quiz surveys; an in-class final exam; an exit survey; and face-to-face interviews. Findings indicated that students who scored above 80% on the module quizzes also did better on in-class exams. Up to now, findings for systematic reviews have largely been restricted to the reviews themselves, with few cases in which lessons learned across many reviews using similar methods can be synthesized. eric.ed.gov har udgivet: This study evaluated an instructional model entitled “Integrating Computer Software into the Functional Mathematics Curriculum: A Diagnostic Approach,” which was intended to prepare middle-school special education students for the Maryland Functional Mathematics Test. The model consisted of eight major components: pretests/posttests, diagnostic evaluations, domain directories, software matrix, software summaries, skill sheets, computer software, and miscellaneous materials. The model was evaluated by comparing math performance and attitudes of students who received instruction based on the model with those of matched control students, and by conducting interviews with teachers using the model. Analysis of scores of 26 experimental and 26 comparison subjects on the 9th-grade Maryland Functional Mathematics Test indicated that 27% of experimental subjects passed the test, while 12% of the comparison students passed. National measures for widening participation in HE, such as the Degree Apprenticeship Levy, have led to significant changes in learning background diversity of WBL cohorts, consequently increasing student requirement for additional learning-support in HE Institutions (HEIs). To address these challenges, an intervention strategy was formulated in collaboration with Aston University’s Learning Development Centre. Our methodology gradually embedded a provision of tailored learning-support sessions/workshops in mathematics and effective communication skills within WBL curricula.
