Eric.ed.gov – Professional Development Integrating Technology: Does Delivery Format Matter?

eric.ed.gov har udgivet: The goal of the two Power of Data (POD) projects was to increase science, technology and math skills through the implementation of project-based learning modules that teach students how to solve problems through data collection and analysis utilizing geospatial technologies. Professional development institutes in two formats were offered to encourage teachers to implement the modules. We compared teacher learning, teacher implementation, and student learning from the two different professional development formats to examine how each format supported teachers to implement the modules, and, ultimately, improve student understanding. Teacher surveys, content and technology assessments, classroom observations, student assessments, and student work samples were analyzed for comparison between a two-week summer institute and monthly meetings held throughout the academic year. Teachers and students from both formats showed improvement in… Continue Reading

Assessment of statistical literacy can take the forms of tasks that require students to identify, translate, compute, read, and interpret data. In addition, statistical instruction can take many forms encompassing course delivery format such as face-to-face, hybrid, online, video capture, and flipped. In this study, we examined statistical literacy of graduate students using a validated assessment tool (the Comprehensive Assessment of Outcomes in Statistics; CAOS) across two increasingly popular delivery… Continue Reading

tandfonline.com – Findings from a Survey of Statistics and Biostatistics Instructors in the Health Sciences Who Teach Using an Online or Flipped Format

tandfonline.com har udgivet en rapport under søgningen “Teacher Education Mathematics”: ABSTRACT ABSTRACT Online and flipped courses are becoming more commonly found across disciplines, including in (bio)-statistics. The literature contains many case studies of instructors reporting on their use of these formats. However, a gap exists in regard to a systematic study of instructors’ implementation of, attitudes on, and recommendations for online or flipped courses in (bio)statistics. We conducted a survey to elicit such responses, and we report here on n = 24 instructors who teach (bio)statistics in the health sciences. These instructors’ courses are described, as well as results summarized for their responses on various aspects of these courses, ranging from the technology they use to whether they would recommend various approaches to teaching colleagues. These findings should be useful… Continue Reading
