tandfonline.com – Increased Metacognition About Health and Learning in a Middle School-based Health Promotion Project Using an Action-oriented Research Model

tandfonline.com har udgivet en rapport under søgningen “Teacher Education Mathematics”: ABSTRACT ABSTRACT Health is a resource for pupils’ learning. Including health in the curriculum and teaching will enable pupils to understand the connection between health and learning. Action research has proved to be effective from a learning perspective. Our purpose was to explore whether, and how, using action-oriented research methods in a middle school-based health promotion project contributed to metacognition about health and learning. The design was an action-oriented research model using reflection forums: a support group; a project group; and two focus groups of pupils and teachers. The latent content analysis resulted in three categories: (1) Professional aspects; (2) Educational aspects; and (3) Structural aspects, with adherent subcategories. The discussion presents a synthesis of findings about metacognition, with Structural… Continue Reading

tandfonline.com – To tell or not to tell about your mental health problems? An intervention for students

tandfonline.com har udgivet en rapport under søgningen “Teacher Education Mathematics”: ABSTRACT ABSTRACT Worldwide, an increasing number of students in higher education have mental health problems. Talking about these problems at the university is often not that easy. Students fear to be stigmatised if they disclose their problems to others. However, if they do not disclose their problems, they may not get the support they often need. Existing interventions to help people with this disclosure-dilemma are not specifically aimed at students, and lack certain important aspects. Therefore, we developed an intervention to help students with making a personal, well-informed decision regarding whether or not to disclose their problems. We examined the experiences of students and professionals with the new intervention. Moreover, we studied whether the students were less concerned about disclosure… Continue Reading

tandfonline.com har udgivet en rapport under søgningen “Teacher Education Mathematics”: ABSTRACT ABSTRACT The Covid-19 pandemic in 2020-2021 generated almost universal shocks to the interrelated complex systems of politics, society, economy, social care and health. The objectives of this article are to analyse health systems conceptually (section two) and empirically (case studies of the UK and Russia) in order to understand: their interactions with the other four complex systems; their readiness for the Covid-19 epidemics and resilience in coping with its challenges; and the impacts on them of changes in health priorities, shortages, and rationing. Evaluations are made in section three of the readiness of the UK and Russia health systems in January-February 2020 and in section four of their resilience during the First Wave (March-June). Section five assesses developments in… Continue Reading

tandfonline.com har udgivet en rapport under søgningen “Teacher Education Mathematics”: ABSTRACT ABSTRACT This article explores the aims, strategies, developments, successes, and challenges of Gendered Innovations from its inception in 2005 to today. Gendered Innovations employs methods of sex, gender, and intersectional analysis to overcome past bias and, importantly, to create new knowledge. It seeks to harness the creative power of sex, gender, and intersectional analysis for innovation and discovery. The operative question is: does considering these factors add valuable dimensions to research? Do they take research in new directions? Gendered Innovations: (1) develops practical methods of sex, gender, and intersectional analysis specifically for natural scientists and engineers; and (2) provides case studies as concrete illustrations of how sex, gender, and intersectional analysis leads to discovery. The article discusses where Gendered… Continue Reading

tandfonline.com – Cultures of Nutrition: Classification, Food Policy, and Health

tandfonline.com har udgivet en rapport under søgningen “Teacher Education Mathematics”: ABSTRACT ABSTRACT Nutrition policymakers frequently treat their knowledge of nutrition as acultural and universal. We analyze food guidelines in Mexico and Guatemala to draw attention to embedded, but often unrecognized, cultural values of standardization and individual responsibility. We suggest that nutrition policy would be improved by attending to the cultural values within nutrition science, and that nutrition guidelines should attend not only to other people’s cultures but to what we are calling “cultures of nutrition.” We conclude by offering an example of an adaptive approach to policy-making that may be useful for handling situations where many different cultures of nutrition collide.
