tandfonline.com – Adult-initiated touch and its functions at a Swedish preschool: controlling, affectionate, assisting and educative haptic conduct

tandfonline.com har udgivet en rapport under søgningen “Teacher Education Mathematics”: ABSTRACT ABSTRACT The present study examines adult–child touch and its functions in a Swedish preschool (for 1 to 5-year-old children). The data are naturalistic observations and video-recorded data of everyday preschool activities. The study describes the frequently occurring functions of educators’ haptic conduct (control, affectionate, affectionate-control, assisting and educative touch), discussing them in relation to the children’s age, gender and type of the preschool activity. It reveals the complexity of touch, demonstrating that physical contact is used for a variety of purposes in the educators’ daily work. The educators employed touch without force, and the children did not respond with explicit and forceful resistance (such as pushing back or otherwise protesting). Adult-initiated haptic behaviour served a continuum of social purposes… Continue Reading

Eric.ed.gov – Math Academy: Can You See It in Nature? Explorations in Patterns & Functions. Book 2: Supplemental Math Materials for Grades 3-8

eric.ed.gov har udgivet: Created by teachers for teachers, the Math Academy tools and activities included in this booklet were designed to create hands-on activities and a fun learning environment for the teaching of mathematics to students. This booklet contains the “Math Academy–Can You See It in Nature? Explorations in Patterns & Functions,” which a teacher can use to enhance his/her math instruction while staying true to the academic rigor required by the state standards framework. It contains all the activities used for the patterns and functions Math Academy. This Math Academy is designed to help students understand the connection between geometric and numerical patterns (younger students) as well as between patterns and functions (older students). One may choose to implement a grade-level or school-wide Math Academy as the author originally… Continue Reading

Eric.ed.gov – The Imagery Models of Mathematics Teacher Candidates on Graph of Rational and Irrational Functions

eric.ed.gov har udgivet: Students of mathematics teacher candidates are required to have good math and communication skills. Therefore, students of mathematics teacher candidates need to have good imagery modalities like the rational-irrational function graph. To get the imaginary student of mathematics teacher candidate in describing the rational-irrational function graph used qualitative research method. The subjects criteria are the students of mathematics education program, pursued the real course of analysis, and have not got the material to describe the rational-irrational function graph. The research data was taken by using the task test. The data were analyzed by categorizing, looking at the independence in describing, and looking at the logic or way of thinking. The research results showed that there are ten models (5 separate models and five combined models) of students’… Continue Reading

Eric.ed.gov – The Effects of the Use of Microsoft Math Tool (Graphical Calculator) Instruction on Students’ Performance in Linear Functions

eric.ed.gov har udgivet: The aim of the study was to investigate the effect of Microsoft Math Tool (graphical calculator) on students’ achievement in the linear function. The study employed Quasi-experimental research design (Pre-test Post-test two group designs). A total of ninety-eight (98) students were selected for the study from two different Senior High Schools (SHS) in Accra, Ghana. The two schools were categorized as control group of forty-eight (48) students and experimental group of fifty (50) students. The analysis of data was done using independent t-test with alpha value (a) = 0.05. Pre-test assessment conducted at the beginning of the study shown no significant difference, t (95.720) = -0.441, p = 0.660 between the control and experimental groups. This indicated that the two groups were homogeneous. The experimental group received… Continue Reading
