ABSTRACT During the COVID-19 pandemic period, a growing number of learning activities are taking place in online contexts. Along with the adversity in the online course of target language learning, student engagement has been considered important to improve learners’ academic achievements of the target language. Although there has been a growing interest in the relationship between students’ perceived social support and their online learning engagement, the literature lacks an in-depth investigation of the intricate relations between these two constructs… Continue Reading

Eric.ed.gov – Structural Equation Modeling of Knowledge Content Improvement Using Inquiry Based Instruction

eric.ed.gov har udgivet: A key element in science education is establishing and maintaining linkages between teachers and researchers that can eventuate in enhanced student outcomes. Determining when and where a new educational program or intervention results in an enhanced outcome can be sensitive to many different forces that the researcher must carefully manage. The target of inquiry-based approach is to increase cognitive abilities such as critical thinking. However, students, teachers, and schools are evaluated based on content student knowledge. Statistical modeling choices affect the ability to determine the efficacy of the intervention and the ability to identify those students who receive the greatest and least benefit from the intervention. As it is imperative to determine how an increase in cognitive abilities corresponds to an increase in content across different demographics… Continue Reading

Eric.ed.gov – Structural and Social Constraints in the Teaching of Life Skills for HIV/AIDS Prevention in Malawi Primary Schools

eric.ed.gov har udgivet: The Ministry of Education in Malawi introduced a life skills education program with the intention to empower children with appropriate information and skills to deal with social and health problems affecting the nation, including the fight against HIV infections. This study investigated factors affecting the teaching of the life skills education in four primary schools in the Zomba district, Malawi. Cornbleth’s (1990) notions of the structural and social contexts and Whitaker’s (1993) identification of key role players in curriculum implementation framed the study. Data was collected through interviews with teachers and principals and observations of teachers’ lessons. Findings suggest that the teaching of life skills is constrained by a variety of social and structural contextual factors such as the poor conditions under which teachers are working; greater… Continue Reading

Eric.ed.gov – The Impact of High School Mathematics and Science Course Graduation Requirements: School Structural, Academic, and Social Organizational Factors

eric.ed.gov har udgivet: Given the policy goals of course graduation requirements (CGRs), this study first tests the hypothesis that CGRs promote academic excellence and equity by both improving student performance (“productivity hypothesis”) and reducing the gap between student groups as defined by academic ability, race/ethnicity, and socioeconomic status (“equality hypothesis”). This study also assesses whether and how schools differ in CGRs’ effects by testing the following hypotheses that CGRs affect student outcomes more positively in schools with (1) higher concentration of advantaged peers (“school structure hypothesis”), (2) greater academic/instructional capacity (“academic organization hypothesis”), and (3) stronger academic norms/climate (“social organization hypothesis”). This study analyzes the data from the High School Longitudinal Study of 2009 (HSLS:09) that provide the information on high school CGRs in several academic subjects at the school… Continue Reading

tandfonline.com – An examination of the structural validity of the Physical Self-Description Questionnaire-Short Form (PSDQ–S) using the Rasch Measurement Model

tandfonline.com har udgivet en rapport under søgningen “Teacher Education Mathematics”: Abstract Abstract It is important for self-report scales and measures used by educators and health care professionals (such as the Physical Self-Description Questionnaire-Short Form [PSDQ–S]) to have documented reliability and validity. The aim of this study is to investigate the structural validity of the full PSDQ–S composite scale and 11 subscales using the Rasch Measurement Model. 117 healthy children (65 males and 52 females; M = 10 years, 2 months, SD = 1 year, 4 months) completed the PSDQ–S. The PSDQ–S’s rating scale functioning, dimensionality, hierarchical ordering, differential item functioning (DIF), and item and person separation reliability were examined. Results supported the scale functioning, dimensionality, hierarchical ordering, DIF, and reliability of the PSDQ–S composite scale and each of its 11 subscales. Therefore, the PSDQ–S composite scale and 11… Continue Reading
