eric.ed.gov har udgivet: The emergence of technology has led to numerous changes in mathematical and statistical teaching and learning which has improved the quality of instruction and teacher/student interactions. The teaching of statistics, for example, has shifted from mathematical calculations to higher level cognitive abilities such as reasoning, interpretation, and evaluation (Ben-Zvi, 2000). Visualization is one such technological tool and can be defined as the graphical display of information. The benefit of this approach is in providing the viewer with a visual means of processing information (Segenchuk, 1997). Since the 1980’s, graphical aids have been viewed as an innovative strategy in education, especially for math or science related subjects. The purpose of this study is to investigate the use of Flash applets on Pocket PCs in statistics education, specifically in… Continue Reading →

eric.ed.gov har udgivet: Briefly presented are the rationale and procedures used to develop and validate an interactive videodisc program to assist in diagnosing difficulties in mathematics in grades 1-3. The mathematics assessment program is described as 408 criterion-referenced items divided into seven strands. Questions are administered until a student makes three consecutive errors; then the student is branched to the next section in a strand. At the teacher’s option, the test can be administered in either English or Spanish. Information is also included on equipment configurations possible among videodisc players, microcomputers, touch screens, and printers, and disc capacity is noted. Finally, comments on formative evaluation needs are given. (MNS) Link til kilde

eric.ed.gov har udgivet: This document contains the efforts of a group of teachers to develop curricular materials designed to correlate the subject matter of mathematics with that of a shop course in power mechanics. It is not an adaptation of traditional courses in mathematics, but an attempt to integrate the subject matter of mathematics into the concepts utilized in power mechanics classes. Content is presented under the following chapter headings: Fractions, Decimals, Per Cent, Ratio and Proportion, Directed Numbers, Formulas, Metric System, Geometry, Powers and Roots, and Shop Business. These sections of study are designed to be as inclusive as possible. Included are all activities with which a student will be involved in a teaching situation, along with evaluation materials, worksheets, guides, and other materials that will be used. Each… Continue Reading →

tandfonline.com har udgivet en rapport under søgningen “Teacher Education Mathematics”: Abstract Abstract This study explored the work environment factors that support or constrain the application of teacher professional development initiatives in Ghanaian basic schools. Utilizing qualitative research paradigm, 15 teachers were purposively selected and interviewed from one educational district in Ghana. Findings from the study showed that headteachers support through the provision of the required teaching and learning resources, peer support through culture of shared norms, beliefs and values and the opportunity to share knowledge during school-based in-service training (INSET), interest and commitment shown by students toward learning, and availability of needed teaching and learning materials supported transfer of learning of teachers. In contrast, lack of time due to rigid and inflexible school timetable, teacher workload, and inadequate teaching and… Continue Reading →

tandfonline.com har udgivet en rapport under søgningen “Teacher Education Mathematics”: ABSTRACT ABSTRACT This paper takes the concept of pedagogical content knowledge (PCK), which is well known in teacher education, and applies it in research methods education where it has not been previously used. It asks how experienced social science research methods teachers, who know their subject (method) well, teach advanced social research methods to others. Drawing on a wider, multi-method qualitative study conducted in the UK, the paper shows the participating teachers’ orientation to teaching methods and how they combine knowledge of content and pedagogy in generic and distinctive PCK. It shows specifically their use of data for translating methods to become readily knowable for students. The case is made for identifying PCK through dialogic means as a vehicle for… Continue Reading →

Abstract Technological innovation in science provides complementary tools for exploring new teaching strategies within a pedagogical framework that promotes interaction between the teacher and the learner. This work is based on the implementation of a computer application modeling crystallographic material structures, in order to identify and study the different crystalline structures and their characteristics, based on the techniques of three-dimensional modeling covering the OpenGL library and the Euler rotation matrices, and developed by the C # programming language. The… Continue Reading →

eric.ed.gov har udgivet: It is widely accepted that the learning of a new language, among other advantages, promotes respect and interest of the students towards other cultures and languages. The question is how learning languages can be promoted in educational settings. The aim of the present study is to explore the principles of communicative language teaching in primary-education CLIL and FL classrooms. More specifically, in this paper we address to what extent collaborative work, attention to language and content and corrective feedback are observed during teacher-student and peer interaction in these educational settings. Following an action research approach, ten Spanish and ten Math sessions were observed and recorded. Furthermore, whole group interaction and peer interaction were analysed in relation to the participants’ attention to language and content. Results from the… Continue Reading →

tandfonline.com har udgivet en rapport under søgningen “Teacher Education Mathematics”: Abstract Abstract Objectives: The aim of the study was to retrospectively evaluate the effectiveness of a fertility awareness-based method supported by a mobile-based application to prevent unwanted pregnancies as a method of natural birth control. Methods: In a retrospective analysis, the application’s efficiency as a contraceptive method was examined on data from 4054 women who used the application as contraception for a total of 2085 woman-years. Results: The number of identified unplanned pregnancies was 143 during 2053 woman-years, giving a Pearl Index of 7.0 for typical use. Ten of the pregnancies were due to the application falsely attributing a safe day within the fertile window, producing a perfect-use Pearl Index of 0.5. Calculating the cumulative pregnancy probability by life-table analysis… Continue Reading →
