Eric.ed.gov – Patterns, Sequences, and Equations (Math and Language/Fine Arts). Module 2. MATHCO Teacher’s Guide.

eric.ed.gov har udgivet: MATHCO is a motivating series of audiovisual and print materials designed to overcome the negative effects of sex bias and stereotyping on the attitudes, interests, and aspirations of girls toward mathematics and mathematics-related careers. The materials teach mathematics skills, demonstrate relationships between mathematics and other subjects, and provide exposure to mathematics-related careers. They are useful for boys as well as girls at the pre- and early-adolescent stage; they are both multiethnic and nonsexist in text and illustrations. Module 2 focuses on patterns, sequences, and equations in language and fine arts as well as in mathematics. The audiovisual script is included, followed by suggested activities and activity work. ABSTRACT Ordinary differential equations (ODEs) have a wide range of potential applications in science and engineering with regard to nonlinear dynamic systems. Frequently, there is a focus upon locating unique solutions to ODEs, with non-unique solutions being viewed as potentially problematic. However, some have recognized the importance of examining the character of non-unique solutions as well in order to properly understand the behaviour of physical systems. In some areas of engineering, notably control theory, the latter concern has become… Continue Reading

tandfonline.com – Inquiry-Based Modeling of Population Dynamics With Logistic Differential and Difference Equations

tandfonline.com har udgivet en rapport under søgningen “Teacher Education Mathematics”: Abstract Formulae display:?Mathematical formulae have been encoded as MathML and are displayed in this HTML version using MathJax in order to improve their display. Uncheck the box to turn MathJax off. This feature requires Javascript. Click on a formula to zoom. Abstract Following a modeling-first approach to differential equations, inquiry-based learning activities on modeling and controlling the growth of locally relevant species, such as lionfish or sea turtles, are developed by the authors. Emerging exemplary practices are presented, building towards a balanced teaching of differential equations involving multiple mathematical perspectives, representations, and intra-disciplinary and interdisciplinary mathematical connections. This innovative approach is an effort towards realizing the MAA’s Common Vision for Undergraduate Mathematical Sciences programs in 2025. Discrete and continuous approaches… Continue Reading
