eric.ed.gov har udgivet: This study provides a comprehensive look at a constructivist one-to-one computing program’s effects on teaching and learning practices as well as student learning achievements. The study participants were 476 fourth and fifth grade students and their teachers from four elementary schools from a school district in the Dallas, Texas, area. Findings indicated consistent and highly positive findings of the efficacy of a constructivist one-to-one computing program in terms of student math and reading achievement, differentiation in teaching and learning, higher student attendance, and decreased disciplinary actions, suggesting a range of possible educational benefits that can be achieved through a comprehensive one-to-one computing educational environment. tandfonline.com har udgivet en rapport under søgningen “Teacher Education Mathematics”: ABSTRACT ABSTRACT This paper starts with an evaluation of three common arguments against pluralism in economics: (1) the claim that economics is already pluralist, (2) the argument that if there was the need for greater plurality, it would emerge on its own, and (3) the assertion that pluralism means ‘anything goes’ and is, thus, unscientific. Pluralist responses to all three arguments are summarized. The third argument is shown to relate to a greater challenge for pluralism: an epistemological trade-off between diversity and consensus that suggests moving from a discussion about ‘pros’ and ‘cons’ towards a discussion about the adequate degree of plurality. The paper shows how the trade-off originates from two main challenges: the need to derive adequate quality criteria… Continue Reading →

eric.ed.gov har udgivet: California’s shift towards continuous improvement in education makes understanding how districts and schools can learn to improve a more pressing question than ever. The CORE Improvement Community (CIC), a network of California school districts engaged in learning about improvement together, is an important testing ground to learn about what this work entails. This report continues drawing lessons from the CIC’s second year as its districts work together towards a common aim: to improve the mathematics achievement of African American and Latinx students in Grades 4-8. The CIC applies a specific continuous improvement approach, called improvement science, to support teams in reaching the aim. Improvement science, unlike many approaches to reform, is not a specific “program” designed to fix educators’ performance in a particular aspect of their work… Continue Reading →

tandfonline.com har udgivet en rapport under søgningen “Teacher Education Mathematics”: ABSTRACT ABSTRACT In the United States, educator preparation is regulated at the state level. Accordingly, each state education system, and even individual districts, responded uniquely to the COVID-19 pandemic. Western Governors University (WGU) compiled a list of each state regulators’ response to COVID, many of which included relaxation of student teaching requirements. While most of WGU’s teacher preparation programme is delivered online, students complete observations and student teaching (teaching practice) in traditional classrooms. WGU had 1,875 student teacher candidates in the field on 1 March 2020. Through diligent effort all the candidates were able to complete their student teaching. WGU responded by allowing parallelism between the student teachers and their mentor teacher so that the student teacher could engage in teaching in the… Continue Reading →

tandfonline.com har udgivet en rapport under søgningen “Teacher Education Mathematics”: ABSTRACT ABSTRACT This study looks at the impact of the novel coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic on four education and technical colleges from the San Nicolas District in Buenos Aires Province, Argentina. We analyse information collected from directors, a regional teacher trainer, and an education specialist on how colleges react, adapt, and respond to student-teacher needs during the tine of the pandemic. We also examine the changes to the practicum for 21 teachers. The reality of the pandemic has inspired management and teachers from training and technical institutions to propose an innovative educational response for the student-teachers and to contemplate how teacher training can reshape practice and learning moving from the old to the new normal. eric.ed.gov har udgivet: The George W. Bush Institute began the Middle School Matters (MSM) initiative in 2010 with the goal of increasing the number of students who are prepared for high school and postsecondary success. The initiative accomplishes this by drawing upon evidence-based research to develop practical tools and engaging support opportunities for middle grade campuses, allowing research-based practices to be brought to life in classrooms across the nation. The heart of the initiative is the deliberate connection between research and the instructional practice of educators. More specifically, MSM turned high-quality research into actionable strategies for districts, schools, and teachers to use to improve reading, writing, and math instruction — and to improve use of data systems to identify students who are at-risk of dropping out. This report continues the… Continue Reading →

eric.ed.gov har udgivet: This paper reports on a pilot study that compared the use of commercial off-the-shelf (COTS) handheld game consoles (HGCs) with traditional teaching methods to develop the automaticity of mathematical calculations and self-concept towards mathematics for year 4 students in two metropolitan schools. One class conducted daily sessions using the HGCs and the Dr Kawashima’s Brain Training software to enhance their mental maths skills while the comparison class engaged in mental maths lessons using more traditional classroom approaches. Students were assessed using standardised tests at the beginning and completion of the term and findings indicated that students who undertook the Brain Training pilot study using the HGCs showed significant improvement in both the speed and accuracy of their mathematical calculations and self-concept compared to students in the control… Continue Reading →

tandfonline.com har udgivet en rapport under søgningen “Teacher Education Mathematics”: Abstract Recent reforms in science education highlight the need for student-centred approaches to teaching in school curriculum policy in South Africa. Science teachers are required to move away from traditional teacher-centred practices which regard students as mere passive recipients of knowledge. In this study, we examine classroom talk for the type of student participation encouraging moves employed in lessons on basic genetics concepts and the related quality of instructional strategies employed by a university lecturer during a semester course on genetics. A key feature of the course was the lecturer’s use of students’ prior knowledge including alternative conceptions from a diagnostic assessment to facilitate the learning of pertinent genetics terminologies. Through a qualitative approach, we combine two recently published frameworks—the… Continue Reading →

eric.ed.gov har udgivet: E-learning will be gradually introduced to all schools and to all specialties including math lessons. Mathematics courses have increased flexibility and can be accessed from anywhere , anytime via computer linked to internt and web technologies. Characteristics of e-learning in mathematics are : efficiency, immediate, large viewing opportunities , complete and rigorous calculations. These privileges technology offers new opportunities open up new horizons as agreed upon by more and more students. The technology honors two requirements of contemporary education: space and demography. E-learning that has the same quality as traditional education, technology having negative influences on it except that it is a major change shape representation. Formative and summative exemplify using WebCT , Web Course Tools through which the teacher provides the student to be read and… Continue Reading →
