This unexpected circumstance forced educators to adopt different learning theories of which they were largely unaware. The results were predominantly unsatisfactory for both learner and educator. This paper provides perspectives to this unfortunate circumstance, describes positive and negative aspects of the experiences, presents best practices for deep online learning, and challenges geography educators to learn how instructional design for online courses can be leveraged. During this time, mathematics support/tutoring centers also moved their services online. We discuss best practices for online tutoring from the literature and the shared experiences of 28 tutoring center leaders who transitioned to online tutoring during the pandemic. We recommend tutoring centers offer both synchronous video conferencing with shared white boards and an asynchronous or text-based option to increase flexibility and alleviate issues of access. Tutors should be trained to utilize the chosen technology and to adapt their communication to the new environment. Link til kilde

eric.ed.gov har udgivet: This study was designed in response to a request from rural educators in the Northeast for support in identifying high-quality online resources to implement the Common Core State Standards for Mathematics (CCSSM). The process for identifying online resources included selecting resources that had an easily navigable CCSSM organizational structure and explicit references to the CCSSM content and/or practice standards. The process for evaluating quality involved math content experts applying the Educators Evaluating the Quality of Instructional Products (EQuIP) rubric to the selected online resources. A total of 184 online resources were initially screened, with 59 meeting all three of these criteria. Western Governors University (WGU) compiled a list of each state regulators’ response to COVID, many of which included relaxation of student teaching requirements. While most of WGU’s teacher preparation programme is delivered online, students complete observations and student teaching (teaching practice) in traditional classrooms. This research focuses on the challenges this posed for teacher educators. Using qualitative research methods and concepts from spatial geography, the article explores how pedagogies adapted as the removal of the practicum relocated learning communities to new online spaces. Established practices changed quickly, with educators showing ‘pedagogic agility’. Despite the relocation to newly-formed online spaces, many principles and ‘intentionalities’ of practice remained unchanged, as did the teacher educators’ orientating values.
