Program features include: pre-assessment of pupil speed and accuracy, automatic placement of the pupil in appropriate problems for practice, automatic monitoring of pupil performance, and automatic adjustment of practice problems. Field testing was undertaken with junior and senior high students with learning disabilities as well as with grade 4-5 students without disabilities. The four curricula were (1) Investigations in Number, Data, and Space (Investigations); (2) Math Expressions; (3) Saxon Math (Saxon); and (4) Scott Foresman-Addison Wesley Mathematics (SFAW), which the developer revised and renamed enVision Math (enVision) during the study. Math anxiety is defined as negative emotions that interfere with the solving of mathematical problems. Studies have found that some students who perform poorly on math assessments actually have a full understanding of the concepts being tested; however, their anxiety interferes with their ability to solve mathematical problems. Researchers believe that implementation of strategies to prevent or reduce math anxiety will improve the math achievement of many students.
