eric.ed.gov har udgivet: Maryland’s demanding new Kindergarten Readiness Assessment was administered statewide for the first time. Its results are revealing and sobering. Many states do not even check in any systematic way on their children’s readiness for kindergarten, and in previous years, Maryland used metrics based on modest expectations, outdated standards, and feel-good politics. With the leadership of State Superintendent Lillian Lowery and Assistant Superintendent Rolf Grafwallner, Maryland has brought a new sense of reality to the skills that five-year-olds should possess if they are truly prepared to succeed in kindergarten and the early grades. eric.ed.gov har udgivet: This document summarizes the work of the Math Curriculum Project at San Francisco State University. The project developed seven curriculum units for the middle school mathematics program, using microcomputers as a problem solving tool to foster mathematical thinking and develop insights into mathematical concepts. They also created a prototype telephone network that is both a message system and a curricular data base for activities in each unit. Finally, they developed a teacher training model from their experiences in piloting the materials. The report describes the objectives, methods and procedures, outcomes, and dissemination activities of the project. eric.ed.gov har udgivet: This publication describes features of the South Central Kansas Elementary Math-Science (SOCKEMS) project developed as a child-centered program, although the actual teaching materials and methods are not described. Materials are presented in such a way that children learn science by using their perceptual ability to great extent. Considerable emphasis is placed on concrete, tangible, observable investigative activities. Inservice teacher workshops to orient teachers with the methods and materials are provided. Evaluation of the program showed considerable student success related to short term and long term achievement and attitudinal changes. This work was prepared under an ESEA Title III contract.
