tandfonline.com har udgivet en rapport under søgningen “Teacher Education Mathematics”: ABSTRACT ABSTRACT Developing inquiry-based science teaching (I.B.S.T.) methods in lower secondary schools challenges many schools and educational bodies. The paper addresses the influence of teacher collaboration on science teachers’ approaches and practices regarding I.B.S.T. The research emphasises three case studies: two science teachers, one expert and one new teacher, attending programmes based on teacher collaboration; one experienced teacher without any specific training on I.B.S.T.. Each of the three teachers was videotaped during one classroom session and interviewed about the video directly after the lesson. Their practices were portrayed in terms of the six crucial dimensions and indicators of I.B.S.T. Differences were seen among the three teachers. The two teachers attending programmes based on teacher collaboration employ teaching approaches and practices… Continue Reading →

tandfonline.com har udgivet en rapport under søgningen “Teacher Education Mathematics”: Abstract Abstract In this paper we present the major theoretical and methodological pillars of evolutionary political economy. We proceed in four steps. Aesthetics: In chapter 1 the immediate appeal of evolutionary political economy as a specific scientific activity is described. Content: Chapter 2 explores the object of investigation of evolutionary political economy. Power: The third chapter develops the interplay between politics and economics. Methods: Chapter 4 focuses on the evolution of methods necessary for evolutionary political economy. Link til kilde

tandfonline.com har udgivet en rapport under søgningen “Teacher Education Mathematics”: Abstract Abstract Textbooks are the only available source/s of teaching and learning English in Pakistani public education system. Whether the textbooks serve their intended purposes as mentioned in the National Curriculum of English, the researchers conducted a mixed methods teachers’-led evaluation to investigate the effectiveness of English textbooks. The study aimed to understand how Pakistani government primary school teachers in the province of Balochistan view the English textbooks of Grades 1–5 and what impacts the effectiveness of the English textbooks. Using an exploratory sequential design, the researchers first recruited 188 government teachers for survey in quantitative part of the study and later selected 12 participants from those who completed the survey for semi-structured interviews in qualitative part of the study.… Continue Reading →

ABSTRACT As states and districts incorporate value-added estimates into multiple-measures systems of teacher evaluation, it has become increasingly important to understand how to model value added when the same student is taught the same subject by multiple teachers. Roster data on teacher–student links that have been checked and confirmed by the teachers themselves show levels of co-teaching far beyond what appear in administrative data. Therefore, to help states and districts overcome a potential limitation in the use of value… Continue Reading →

tandfonline.com har udgivet en rapport under søgningen “Teacher Education Mathematics”: Abstract The position statement on value-added models published by the American Statistical Association (ASA) suggested guidelines and issues to consider when using value-added models as a component of a teacher evaluation system. One suggestion offered is that value-added results should be accompanied by measures of precision. It is important, however, to go beyond simply reporting measures of precision alongside point estimates, but instead to formally include measures of precision into the value-added models and teacher classification systems. This practice will lead to improved inferences and reduced misclassification rates. Therefore, the aim of this article is to offer two suggested approaches for including measures of precision into the value-added model process. The first suggestion is to account for measurement error in… Continue Reading →

ABSTRACT A growing literature on within-study comparisons (WSC) examines whether and in what context nonexperimental methods can successfully replicate the results of randomized experiments. WSCs require that the experimental and nonexperimental methods assess the same causal estimand. But experiments that include noncompliance in treatment assignment produce a divergence in the causal estimands measured by standard approaches: the experiment-based estimate of the impact of treatment (the complier average causal effect, CACE) applies only to compliers, while the nonexperimental estimate applies… Continue Reading →

eric.ed.gov har udgivet: Numerous calls have been made for agricultural education to support core academic subject matter including mathematics. Previous research has shown that the incorporation of mathematics content into a teaching methods course had a positive effect on preservice teachers’ mathematics content knowledge. The purpose of this study was to investigate the effects of a math-enhanced agricultural education teaching methods course on preservice agricultural education teachers’ mathematics ability, personal mathematics efficacy, mathematics teaching efficacy, and personal teaching efficacy. Results indicated that preservice teachers’ mathematics ability increased after the math-enhanced teaching methods course. Interestingly, personal mathematics efficacy decreased while mathematics teaching efficacy and personal teaching efficacy increased slightly after the math-enhanced teaching methods course. Based on the results of this study, peer-teaching that utilizes the seven components of a math-enhanced… Continue Reading →

ABSTRACT English language learners are a growing demographic in secondary, two-year, four-year and research institutions where many students encounter their first course in statistics. In the statistics education literature, recent calls have been made to improve statistical education for underserved student populations, including English Language Learners (ELLs). Some have investigated how ELLs interpret instructional material and classroom practices in the statistics classroom. This study uses a sequential mixed methods approach to investigate how Spanish-speaking ELLs may respond differently to… Continue Reading →

tandfonline.com har udgivet en rapport under søgningen “Teacher Education Mathematics”: Abstract Abstract Engineering process control and high-dimensional, time-dependent data present great methodological challenges when applying statistical process control (SPC) and design of experiments (DoE) in continuous industrial processes. Process simulators with an ability to mimic these challenges are instrumental in research and education. This article focuses on the revised Tennessee Eastman process simulator providing guidelines for its use as a testbed for SPC and DoE methods. We provide flowcharts that can support new users to get started in the Simulink/Matlab framework, and illustrate how to run stochastic simulations for SPC and DoE applications using the Tennessee Eastman process.
