tandfonline.com har udgivet en rapport under søgningen “Teacher Education Mathematics”: Abstract Abstract Collaborative work is inherent to being a statistician or data scientist, yet opportunities for training and exposure to real-world scenarios are often only a small part of a student’s academic program. Resources to facilitate effective and meaningful instruction in communication and collaboration are limited, particularly when compared to the abundant resources available to support traditional statistical training in theory and methods. Our work helps fill the need for resources by providing ten modern, freely-available videos of mock collaborative interactions, with supporting discussion questions, scripts, and other resources. Videos are particularly helpful for teaching communication dynamics. These videos are set in the context of academic research discussions, though the scenarios are broad enough to facilitate discussions for other collaborative… Continue Reading →

eric.ed.gov har udgivet: A 1992 conference on mathematics and science teaching focused on two specific topics: enhanced professional development for educators and better instructional materials for the classroom. Teachers, members of Congress, governors, teacher educators, professors, researchers, and policymakers shared what they believed was needed to be done to improve mathematics and science education in the United States. This booklet reports the views of the participants and the general consensus of the conference regarding changes needed in the education system. The concepts of systemic reform in education and the setting of national standards as exemplified by the National Council of Teachers of Mathematics are discussed in section 1. The second section discusses the necessity of providing all children with an opportunity to learn mathematics and science. The third section reports… Continue Reading →

eric.ed.gov har udgivet: With today’s computer and telecommunications technologies, every young person can have a quality education regardless of his or her place of birth. This is the dream that Open Educational Resources (OERs), when viewed as a right rather than a privilege, are directed to realize. For developing countries, we propose a type of OER initiative that leverages not only technology but also the skills of the in-class teacher, that utilizes not only the Internet but also lower-tech delivery platforms, and that is created not only by developed countries of the West but also by educators in many countries worldwide. We outline the design of a cross-border, collaborative learning and teaching system called the Blended Learning Open Source Science or Math Studies Initiative (BLOSSOMS), with an associated partnership network… Continue Reading →

eric.ed.gov har udgivet: This guide was written to aid home economics teachers in developing a greater understanding and use of basic skills in the home economics curriculum. The objectives of this guide are (1) to expand the awareness of underlying mathematics and science principles in the consumer and vocational home economics curriculum and (2) to provide a bank of resources to give teachers a practical and useful base from which to launch their own basic skills instruction. The curriculum guide, structured around the Montana Scope and Sequence, is divided into the curriculum areas of child development, family life, clothing and textiles, foods and nutrition, consumer education, and housing and home furnishings. Objectives and page numbers corresponding to the Scope and Sequence are noted on the top of each page. Science… Continue Reading →

eric.ed.gov har udgivet: With the growing federal, state, and local policy emphasis on teacher quality and student achievement, the Southwest Educational Development Laboratory (SEDL) investigated teacher resources and their relationship to student achievement in Arkansas, Louisiana, and Texas. The purpose of this study was to provide policymakers with information about the relationship between teacher salary, experience, and education, and the relationship between these teacher resources and student achievement, particularly in high-need schools. SEDL used state databases in Arkansas, Louisiana, and Texas to examine the extent to which districts paid teachers based on years of experience and degree level, and whether teacher resources, defined as salary, education, and experience, were distributed differently across schools depending upon their level of need. SEDL also investigated whether within and across the three study states… Continue Reading →

ABSTRACT Research in inclusive settings is complicated by the nested relationships between the general education teacher (GET), the special education teacher (SET) and pupils. In this study, the impact of SET resource and selected variables of teacher competence (professional mathematical knowledge SET, attitude towards inclusion GET, classroom management GET) on the mathematical achievement gain of typically developing pupils (TYP) and pupils with intellectual disability (ID) was examined. Mathematical achievement was tested at the beginning of the school year (t1)… Continue Reading →

eric.ed.gov har udgivet: This study was designed in response to a request from rural educators in the Northeast for support in identifying high-quality online resources to implement the Common Core State Standards for Mathematics (CCSSM). The process for identifying online resources included selecting resources that had an easily navigable CCSSM organizational structure and explicit references to the CCSSM content and/or practice standards. The process for evaluating quality involved math content experts applying the Educators Evaluating the Quality of Instructional Products (EQuIP) rubric to the selected online resources. A total of 184 online resources were initially screened, with 59 meeting all three of these criteria. Among these 59 resources, 19 were determined to be exemplary according EQuIP: 13 of the 19 were classified as instructional resources and 6 of the 19… Continue Reading →
