Eric.ed.gov – Role Perceptions and Role Dynamics between Graduate Scientists and K-12 Teachers in a School-University Outreach Project: Understudied Constructs

This study examined the roles and the dynamics of interactions in an NSF-funded Graduate Teaching Fellows in K-12 Education (GK-12) project. Data sources included interviews with teachers, fellows, and students at eight K-12 schools. Data were analyzed for emergent categories recognized by teachers and fellows alike. Roles played by the fellows were those of science/ math expert, scientist/mathematician role model, source of material resources, source of curricular enrichment, and teaching partner. Teacher roles were perceived as liaison between fellow and schools, teaching partner, teaching mentor, and science/math learner. eric.ed.gov har udgivet: Using their cross-disciplinary review of “Ideas that Work in College Teaching,” the authors explore the pedagogical commonalities of fifteen higher education instructors from SUNY Potsdam (State University of New York at Potsdam) in an attempt to reveal the secrets of teaching success across thirteen academic disciplines–math, computer science, geology, modern languages, political science, philosophy, history, biology, psychology, sociology, physics, and art. While the specific instructional disciplines varied considerably in the content that was both studied and presented, the authors found that the principles of effective teaching were quite similar across each of these disciplines. Eric.ed.gov – Preservice Teachers’ Perceptions about Teaching Mathematics through Music

eric.ed.gov har udgivet: This study examined preservice teachers’ perceptions about teaching elementary level mathematics lessons integrated with music. It also sought to determine how preservice teachers would strategize the integration of music activities when introducing elementary level mathematics lessons. The participants, 53 undergraduate preservice teachers at a large public university in a southern metropolitan area, were provided a series of six 40-minute interactive music-math integrated activities. Results of qualitative data analyses revealed that the majority of preservice teachers provided positive feedback about music-integrated pedagogy for teaching mathematics because it allowed them opportunities to escape from the limitations of traditional mathematics instruction.
