eric.ed.gov har udgivet: The San Francisco Math Leadership Project is an attempt to re-educate elementary teachers, many of whom do not consider mathematics their favorite subject and have limited mathematics backgrounds. The task is to increase the mathematics knowledge of these teachers and build their confidence in their own ability to do mathematics and to teach it. Leadership development begins with a 4-week summer institute and continues with workshops presented by participants at their school sites. In this paper, discussions include background of former participants, goals of the project, and leadership activities of former participants. The Teacher Incentive Fund (TIF) program, established in 2006, provided competitive grants to help states and districts implement a multi-strategy approach to enhancing educator effectiveness. TIF grantees were required to measure educator performance and use this information to make decisions about the support and compensation they provide for educators. The 2015 reauthorization of the Elementary and Secondary Education Act replaced TIF with the Teacher and School Leaders (TSL) Incentive Grants program. This program, like the TIF program, provides grants to eligible entities to develop, implement, improve, or expand performance-based compensation systems and human capital management systems in schools. During their monthly business/training sessions in central Massachusetts, members worked on various individual and team activities, including review and adaptation of the National Council of Teachers of Mathematics (NCTM) standards for adult learning environments and production of newsletter for adult educators called “The Problem Solver.” Team members were interviewed during the eighth month of the yearlong project to determine their attitudes toward the Math Team’s operation and effectiveness as a staff development activity. eric.ed.gov har udgivet: This report describes a project that developed a “Train the Trainer” program that would enable individuals to learn and teach the alternative instructional technique, Tic Tac Toe Math, developed by Richard Cooper for adult basic education students. The pilot workshop conducted as part of the project identified problems that traditional teachers have in learning Tic Tac Toe Math. Solutions to the problems were incorporated into a “Train the Trainer” packet. To accomplish these goals an analysis of current teacher preparation in mathematics is necessary, along with the development of an agenda for improvement. Based on groundwork laid during a meeting in Washington, D.C. in March 2007, the eight members of this study’s Mathematics Advisory Group guided the National Council on Teacher Quality’s evaluation of the mathematics preparation of elementary teachers. It involves a small group of teachers co-planning a series of lessons based on a shared learning goal for the pupils, with one teacher leading the co-constructed lesson and their colleagues invited to observe pupil learning in the lesson. The team then develop their practice further, based on feedback. As a companion to last year’s comprehensive state-by-state analysis, the 2010 edition provides each state with an individualized “Blueprint for Change,” building off last year’s “Yearbook” goals and recommendations. State teacher policy addresses a great many areas, including teacher preparation, certification, evaluation and compensation.
