It investigates whether, and to what extent, awareness-raising practices are currently implemented in EFL secondary education in the Netherlands, how these practices can be characterised, and how awareness-raising practices can be developed and further integrated into foreign language education. In a semi-structured interview, 10 teachers were asked to provide examples which they believed stimulated students’ awareness of language. A total of 41 teaching practices were collected. And when exclusion is the norm, it is bound to produce ideological justifications for the systemic problems produced by it. I therefore question whether it is even possible to dismantle ableism in schools without addressing the political economic dimension of schooling under Capitalism. The issue concerning the relationship between exclusion and disablement is particularly pertinent in India today because a far-right party has just been re-elected and a new education policy has been drafted that proposes to provide multiple ‘exit’ options to children, which actually means multiple exclusion options. The expectation is that it will be implemented in different school subjects, but bridging enterprise education and different school subjects has proven to be a challenge. This article explores whether and how open-ended investigations in science education in secondary schools can be viewed as a form of enterprise education. We identify several points of contact, illuminating the premises on which enterprise education can be integrated into science education.
