eric.ed.gov har udgivet: This Child Development Associate (CDA) training module is intended to teach CDA interns how to provide classroom experiences that promote basic mathematics skills in preschool children. Knowledge of relationships of objects in space, grouping of objects, teaching of number names and counting, and the use of math games are discussed. The trainee is encouraged to learn how to plan and develop lessons, games, activities and environmental conditions to teach about objects and their location in space. Both teacher and trainee materials are provided in the module. Teacher materials consist of directions for pre-testing and field supervision, a resource person activity list and directions for each student activity. Trainee materials include pre- and post-tests, an activity record, a glossary, directions and 17 lessons. (Author/RH) Link til kilde

eric.ed.gov har udgivet: The Natural Math project was undertaken to encourage parents of Native American and Black preschool and kindergarten children to engage in math activities and games at home. Natural Math also attempted to integrate Seminole culture into math materials. The project originally included only Seminole preschool and kindergarten children. Later, Boley school, located in a rural Black community, petitioned for inclusion. Natural Math activities included: (1) the provision of start-up supplies and other materials to the children and their families; (2) an initial meeting to explain the project and the proper use of the materials; (3) a portable computer lab; (4) a math fair; and (5) the distribution of materials for the summer. After their participation in the project, former Head Start children were tested for verbal, math,… Continue Reading

His 1995 Manifesto, ‘Industrial Society and Its Future’, is well known and influential among radicals of many stripes, yet surprisingly little has been written about it. This article uncovers the origins of Kaczynski’s ideas and examines his influence on contemporary anti-tech radicalism. Using newly discovered archival material, I reveal the sources that Kaczynski deliberately concealed in the 1995 Washington Post version of his Manifesto. My excavation of his sources shows that his ideology is more novel than the common ‘eco-terrorist’, ‘green anarchist’, and ‘neo-Luddite’ labels suggest. His Manifesto is a synthesis of ideas from three well known academics: French philosopher Jacques Ellul, British… Continue Reading
eric.ed.gov har udgivet: The study examined how adding students with learning disabilities (LD) to regular education classrooms changed the behavior of nonhandicapped students and their teachers. Initial observations were of mainstream classes containing no learning-disabled students. Observations were again conducted after LD students had been mainstreamed for 8 months. Eleven LD students were observed in five classrooms containing 89 nonhandicapped students in grades 1-5. Behaviors were coded in five areas: type of materials, grouping arrangement, person monitoring the activity, student response, and teacher response. Analyses of the observation data revealed no significant changes in teachers’ behaviors after the implementation of the full-time mainstreaming program. Overall, nonhandicapped students spent the same amount of time reading in reading class and doing math in math class. Nonhandicapped students continued to be actively engaged… Continue Reading

Uncheck the box to turn MathJax off. This feature requires Javascript. Click on a formula to zoom. Abstract Categorical scale data are only ordinal and defined on a finite set. Continuous scale data are only ordinal and defined on a bounded interval. Due to that character, the statistical methods for scale data ought to be based on orders between outcomes only and not any metric involving distance measure. For simple two-sample scale data, variants of classical rank methods are suitable. For regression type of problems, there are known good generalized linear models for separate categories for… Continue Reading
eric.ed.gov har udgivet: These papers are partial fulfillment of the requirements for the Master of Science Degree in Education at Winona State University in Winona, Minnesota. The cohort included a variety of licensure areas that represent most levels and content areas of K-12 education. The students were encouraged to keep their questions and hypothesis directed at specific issues in their teaching environment. The papers follow American Psychological Association (APA) format. Papers in this document include: (1) Increasing Students Visual Aesthetics through the Critical Analysis of Western Masterpiece Artworks (Colin Atkinson); (2) Will Ability Grouping the Seventh Grade Students in Math Positively Impact Their BST Scores When They Take The Test in Eighth Grade? (C. J. Boerger); (3) Will Assigning Math Bags in High School Mathematics Classes Increase the Amount of… Continue Reading
tandfonline.com har udgivet en rapport under søgningen “Teacher Education Mathematics”: ABSTRACT ABSTRACT The purpose of this research is to investigate prospective teachers’ learning in the statistical modeling process. To reach this goal, we position the study in a socio-critical perspective of modeling that informed the design of a statistical investigation. Participants were 10 prospective teachers from a state university in northwestern Colombia who were taking a methods course in statistics. They worked out a statistical investigation inspired by a news article on global warming. The main source of data was fragments from prospective teachers’ speech while working out the statistical investigation. The information was complemented with prospective teachers’ narratives in which they reflected on their experience with statistics. The results reveal that the prospective teachers’ discourse offers indications to suggest… Continue Reading
eric.ed.gov har udgivet: The Math and Science Partnership (MSP) program at the National Science Foundation (NSF) is a major national research and development effort that supports innovative partnerships among institutions of higher education (IHEs), local K-12 school systems, and their supporting partners in order to improve K-12 student achievement in mathematics and science. Deep engagement of science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM) disciplinary faculty is a hallmark of the MSP program. The program posits that disciplinary faculty hold the content knowledge that K-12 teachers need and that, if faculty are substantially involved, teachers’ disciplinary knowledge will be strengthened, resulting in improved student achievement. Drawing on a larger study that examines the effects of STEM faculty engagement in MSP, this article specifically looks at the tenure and promotion policies in a… Continue Reading
