eric.ed.gov har udgivet: An intervention project by Teacher Corps interns in an elementary school was designed to improve student performance in mathematics. Activities carried out by the interns included: (1) construction of a school facade replica reflecting student achievement of identified math curriculum objectives, kindergarten through sixth grade; (2) preparation and presentation of a mathematics unit and study involving use of calculators by fifth-grade students and provision of special mathematics activities for accelerated sixth-grade students; (3) operation of a “Math Hotline” one evening per week to assist students and parents with homework; (4) preparation of mathematics activities and materials for interested students during lunch periods; and (5) planning and conducting a week of special events designed to enhance school spirit, in general, and student and staff motivation in math, in… Continue Reading →

tandfonline.com har udgivet en rapport under søgningen “Teacher Education Mathematics”: ABSTRACT ABSTRACT Research suggests that supportive teacher–student relationships are a prerequisite for student development. Developing such relationships requires teachers to observe, interpret, and reflect on teacher–student interactions and on teachers’ relational competence in practice. Although teacher–student relationships are especially challenging with students with attention deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD), few studies have examined how these relationships develop. In this qualitative study, teachers from two Swedish elementary schools comprising one intervention (n = 33) and one control group (n = 20) completed pre- and post-tests in which they analysed videos of teacher–student interactions. We explored how the teachers understood relational competence in relation to students with ADHD before and after the video-based intervention, which included a presentation on the concept of relational competence and a model… Continue Reading →

eric.ed.gov har udgivet: A project was undertaken to implement the employability, reading, and math skills of disadvantaged students in vocational education. Included in the project were the following activities: (1) field tests, evaluation, and dissemination of a mathematics skills curriculum guide for disadvantaged learners; (2) field tests and revision of guidelines for establishing, operating, and evaluating co-op and mainstream programs for the disadvantaged; and (3) implementation of a series of small-group workshops for teachers of disadvantaged students on implementing employability, reading, and mathematics skills in vocational programs. Separate mathematics, employability, and reading skills curriculum guides and an administrator’s manual for planning, developing, and implementing mainstream, self-contained, or co-op programs for the disadvantaged were developed during the course of the project. An independent review by a third-party evaluator indicated that all… Continue Reading →

tandfonline.com har udgivet en rapport under søgningen “Teacher Education Mathematics”: Abstract Insights and technologies from neuroscience research can help accounting scholars more deeply understand how decision-makers physically and cognitively process and react to accounting information and controls. We conduct a systematic review of accounting literature to evaluate whether and how accounting scholars are incorporating neuroscience research into their work and building a field of ‘neuroaccounting.’ To do so, we identify literature that relates accounting research questions to neuroscience research, addresses accounting questions or tasks but has implications for neuroscience or neuroaccounting research, or investigates accounting questions using neuroscience technologies. We then classify that literature into two broad topic areas analogous to the decision-facilitating (how individuals process information) and decision-influencing (how individuals respond to controls) roles of accounting, and map relationships… Continue Reading →

eric.ed.gov har udgivet: The Mathematics Mastery programme is a whole-school approach to teaching mathematics that aims to raise attainment for all pupils and close the attainment gap between pupils from low income families and their peers. The programme aims to deepen pupils’ conceptual understanding of key mathematical concepts. This clustered Randomised Controlled Trial (RCT) investigated whether implementing the Mathematics Mastery programme led to improvement in Year 7 pupils’ maths test scores. It was intended that schools would also begin to use the programme in Year 8 in the second year of implementation, and continue until the approach was in place across the school. 44 schools from London and the South East participated in the trial, with a total sample of 5,938 pupils. Participating schools received training and resources to support… Continue Reading →

eric.ed.gov har udgivet: An attempt to meet the need for resource materials Spanish-speaking adults is presented. The information presented was acquired by writing to commercial publishers throughout the country. Evaluations included were completed by identifying the usefulness of the curricular offerings for Spanish-speaking adults. Portions of the evaluations are designed for children and junior high school students; some of these have proven useful to adults. Evaluative criteria used when the materials were assessed include: Title, Author, Publisher, Objectives, Criterion Measures, Instructional Components, Learner Prerequisite, Teacher Requirements, Reliability Effect, Cost, and Time. tandfonline.com har udgivet en rapport under søgningen “Teacher Education Mathematics”: Abstract Abstract This dispatch was written in June 2020, as Brazil’s health crisis reached its first peak, when the country had the second-highest COVID-19 death toll in the world while facing major political crises. The national administration of President Jair Bolsonaro has failed to provide clear guidance for the population on how to act in times of a crisis; beyond that, he has exacerbated the health crisis by spreading false or misleading information and hiding official numbers and data. Digital methods of communication have attenuated that problem. This dispatch discusses the role of the radio as an active tool of resistance to Bolsonaro’s anti-knowledge regime and as a response to digital inequities. Although the radio is considered a technology of… Continue Reading →

eric.ed.gov har udgivet: ‘This action research study was conducted on a fourth grade rural classroom in Orange County, N.Y. for the purpose of determining if the use of the VoiceThread program will affect student performance in mathematics writing. A baseline of student performance on this measure was administered in the fall of 2010 using the NYS Holistic rubric of a 3 point total value as provided from the NYS 2009 4th grade Math Test. Four questions on varying topics were pulled from the same test as the rubric mentioned here. In addition, a graphic organizer was utilized to support organization of student thoughts on the problem. A survey was administered to the students at the end of this study which demonstrated positive attitudes towards the use of graphic organizers and… Continue Reading →

tandfonline.com har udgivet en rapport under søgningen “Teacher Education Mathematics”: Abstract Abstract This dialogue (trilogue) is an attempt to critically discuss the technoscientific convergence that is taking place with biodigital technologies in the postdigital condition. In this discussion, Sarah Hayes, Petar Jandrić and Michael A. Peters examine the nature of the convergences, their applications for bioeconomic sustainability and associated ecopedagogies. The dialogue paper raises issues of definition and places the technological convergence (‘nano-bio-info-cogno’) – of new systems biology and digital technologies at the nano level – in an evolutionary context to speculate, on the basis of the latest research, future possibilities. The paper also reviews these developments within familiar landscapes of posthumanism and postmodernism, raises the question of political bioeconomy and the role of postdigital education within it.
