This paper reports on a sociocultural study of the use of students’ personal experiences in early childhood elementary mathematics lessons. This study documents the use of students’ personal out-of-school experiences in classroom math and other subjects and investigates barriers that may prevent such linking. The study group was determined by means of the convenience sampling technique. A total of 124 students aged at 48-84 months were included in the sampling of the study. The data collection tools of the study are the Turkish Version of Encouragement of Academic Skills of Young Children Scale (ÇEABD) and the Home Literacy Activities Questionnaire used for criterion validity. In the analysis of the data, explanatory and confirmatory factor analyses, Pearson correlation analysis, descriptive analysis, item total correlation, and internal consistency coefficient calculation were used. eric.ed.gov har udgivet: This book is an outgrowth of a 2-year study of 284 children discovered during preschool or kindergarten to be advanced in mathematics. In addition to psychometric and cognitive testing conducted at the beginning, middle, and end of the study, half of the children attended biweekly interventions designed to enrich their experience with mathematics. Results found the children remained advanced in math over the 2-year period, their spatial reasoning related more closely to their math reasoning than did their verbal reasoning, and the math scores of the boys started and remained higher than those of the girls. The intervention proved effective in enhancing mathematical reasoning. eric.ed.gov har udgivet: HIPPY targeted parents of children zoned to 100 Houston Independent School District (HISD) elementary campuses during the 2018-2019 academic year, which reflected an increase from 80 campuses the previous year. Academic performance of students whose parents participated in HIPPY was assessed using the kindergarten 2018 Logramos and Iowa assessments, the prekindergarten CIRCLE assessment, and the combined English and Spanish STAAR 3-8. HIPPY kindergarten students attained higher mean normal curve equivalent (NCE) scores on the Logramos reading and mathematics subtests compared to the district, and comparable Iowa mathematics subtest scores as the district. CIRCLE results revealed that the majority of HIPPY students met benchmark by EOY on English and Spanish mathematics subtests.
