eric.ed.gov har udgivet: This article is an overview of how Flin Flon School Division in Flin Flon, Manitoba, used money received through grant funding to revamp its math programming in order to meet the needs of the students within the division. A combination of standardized test scores and individual teacher assessments revealed where student mathematical understanding was lacking. Specific teachers were then trained in particular math programs purchased through this funding. As well, additional math specialist positions were created to help the division’s students learn better, and therefore become more successful with the math curriculum. Link til kilde

eric.ed.gov har udgivet: Math Teachers’ Circles (MTCs) are an innovative, problem-solving focused approach to professional development. This model provides teachers opportunities to develop their problem solving skills as well as help them to communicate with others on classroom implementation of problem-solving activities. As with any professional development with teachers, it is important to explore the impact of this model in terms of teachers’ learning and development. In this report we provide our implementation of a zone theory lens provided by Goos as a way to investigate the MTC model. Initial analysis implementing this particular theoretical lens helps us gain insights in ways to improve this new model of professional development activities for future participants. eric.ed.gov har udgivet: The Center on Standards, Alignment, Instruction, and Learning (C-SAIL), funded by the Institute of Education Sciences, examines how college- and career-readiness (CCR) standards are implemented, if they improve student learning, and what instructional tools measure and support their implementation. This brief presents findings from C-SAIL’s Implementation Study, which uses interview and survey data to explore how district administrators, principals, and teachers are understanding, experiencing, and implementing Massachusetts Curriculum Frameworks in English language arts (ELA) and math. C-SAIL examines e how and what kinds of supports are provided to teachers of all students, including students with disabilities (SWDs) and English learners (ELs) who take the general state assessment. eric.ed.gov har udgivet: We use panel data in Washington State to study the extent to which teacher assignments between fourth and eighth grade explain gaps between advantaged and disadvantaged students–as defined by underrepresented minority status (URM) and eligibility for free or reduced price lunch (FRL)–in their eighth grade math test scores and high school course taking. We find some significant gaps between advantaged and disadvantaged students in the value added of the teachers to which they are assigned in these grades, although gaps in middle school grades are sensitive to the specification of value added. eric.ed.gov har udgivet: “Affordable Online Maths Tuition” is a one-to-one tutoring programme where pupils receive maths tuition over the internet from trained maths graduates in India and Sri Lanka. It is delivered by the organisation Third Space Learning (TSL). Tutors and pupils communicate using video calling and a secure virtual classroom. Before each session, the pupils’ normal classroom teachers are able to select lessons from TSL’s maths curriculum to target individual learning issues.
