eric.ed.gov har udgivet: ENLIST-Micros (ENcourage LIteracy in Science Teachers’ uses of Microcomputers) develops state networks of science and mathematics teachers providing inservice education and support for the implementation of computers and technology in the classroom. In Alabama, the project operated from August 1990 through June 1994. Most inservice workshops were held at Auburn University. Participants included 50 urban, 22 suburban, and 31 rural teachers from schools in Montgomery and the Auburn area. The first 2 years of the project focused on training the teacher participants to use microcomputers and to share their knowledge with other teachers. In the third and fourth year, veteran teachers provided individual training and inservice workshops to other teachers. eric.ed.gov har udgivet: This report describes a project that developed a “Train the Trainer” program that would enable individuals to learn and teach the alternative instructional technique, Tic Tac Toe Math, developed by Richard Cooper for adult basic education students. The pilot workshop conducted as part of the project identified problems that traditional teachers have in learning Tic Tac Toe Math. Solutions to the problems were incorporated into a “Train the Trainer” packet. The instructors recruited for this project included both secondary and postsecondary educators from the fields of Career and Technical Education (CTE), English/language arts (ELA), and mathematics. This model provides teachers opportunities to develop their problem solving skills as well as help them to communicate with others on classroom implementation of problem-solving activities. As with any professional development with teachers, it is important to explore the impact of this model in terms of teachers’ learning and development. In this report we provide our implementation of a zone theory lens provided by Goos as a way to investigate the MTC model. Initial analysis implementing this particular theoretical lens helps us gain insights in ways to improve this new model of professional development activities for future participants. eric.ed.gov har udgivet: Considering the role of mathematics-focused professional development programs in improving teachers’ content knowledge and quality of teaching, we provided teachers opportunities for dealing with mathematics problems and positioning themselves as students in a large-scale long-term professional development (PD) project. In this proposal, we aimed to understand the impact of engaging in morning math problems on teachers in terms of their mathematical understanding and teaching practices. Both written work and interviews showed that solving open-ended problems helped teachers better understand the mathematics content and students’ challenges as they solve problems; thus, suggested an effective means of PD for teachers.
