eric.ed.gov har udgivet: This module examines Focus and Coherence, two of the three shifts required for implementation of the Common Core State Standards for Mathematics (CCSSM). Focus and Coherence are the two major design principles of the math standards. The module assumes prior knowledge of the information presented in Module 1. Course Objectives: By the end of the module, learner will be able to: (1) state the two levels of focus and find examples of each; (2) state the two levels of coherence and find examples of each; (3) use resources to determine major work for a specific grade or course in mathematics; and (3) define “CCSSM stream” and give an example which applies to a grade level or course which is of interest to the learner. eric.ed.gov har udgivet: Teachers play a critical role in establishing classroom and school environments that contribute to students’ social and emotional development. This paper explores whether we can estimate a classroom-level measure of student growth in SEL by applying value-added models to students’ [social-emotional learning] SEL. We analyze data from the 2016 and 2017 administrations of student self-report surveys, which contain responses from roughly 40,000 students in Grade 5 within five of California’s CORE Districts. We estimate separate value-added models for each of the four SEL constructs assessed–growth mindset, self-efficacy, self-management, and social awareness–and for math and [English language arts] ELA academic growth. We find across-classroom-within-school variance of students’ SEL outcomes, even after accounting for school-level variance. The magnitude of classroom-level impacts on students’ growth in SEL appears similar to… Continue Reading →

eric.ed.gov har udgivet: The Common Core State Standards for Mathematics (CCSSM) was published in 2010 and includes a complete collection of standards that are published and reviewed as a “common core” in which math skills have been extensively adopted. The recommendations provided have been entirely or partially adapted by more than 47 states of the US. Authorities have committed and incredible amount of time, money and resources in creating these new standards and additional effort will be required to implement these standards The new math standards address two established issues in US education, the ordinary quality of mathematics learning and equal opportunity in U.S. schools. It is a fact that deprived students are most likely to have inexperienced or under qualified teachers, and children from impoverished families are much less… Continue Reading →

eric.ed.gov har udgivet: The success of any education reform depends on many factors. A critical component is whether school staff are supportive of the initiative and view it as likely to improve educational outcomes. Equally important is whether school staff have the professional development opportunities they need to ensure their practice is aligned with the goals of the initiative. Chicago Public Schools (CPS) has been preparing to implement the Common Core State Standards (CCSS) since 2011-12. Teachers were expected to teach the new English and Language Arts (ELA) standards by 2013-14 and the new math standards one year later, in 2014-15. This report describes teachers’ and administrators’ experiences preparing for this transition, using survey responses from the spring of 2014 and the spring of 2015. Survey questions focused on four… Continue Reading →

eric.ed.gov har udgivet: Timely, ongoing, and effective professional development for teachers and principals will be critical to the successful implementation of the Common Core State Standards (CCSS). These voluntary state-developed standards in mathematics and English language arts (ELA) outline the knowledge and skills that students in grades kindergarten through 12 are expected to learn to be prepared for college and careers. As of July 2013, the CCSS have been adopted in math and ELA by 45 states and the District of Columbia and by one additional state in ELA only. If teachers and principals are going to be prepared to help their students master the Common Core and pass the aligned assessments that will be ready in school year 2014-15, they will need professional development on various issues related to… Continue Reading →

eric.ed.gov har udgivet: The Common Core State Standards (CCSS) represent a shift in the American education system. Included in the CCSS are opportunities for agriculture teachers to integrate math and English language arts content into their curriculum. Using the theory of planned behavior, we sought to identify Oregon agriculture teachers’ attitudes, familiarity with, current level of integration, and professional development needs related to the Common Core State Standards. Our research identified the majority of responding teachers were somewhat familiar with the CCSS. Additionally, teachers had varying levels of agreement that the CCSS would help their teaching, yet the majority of agriculture teachers in our study reported they had somewhat implemented the CCSS. In an effort to identify the professional development needs of teachers concerning these standards, we used the CCSS… Continue Reading →

eric.ed.gov har udgivet: Within a response to intervention system of teaching and learning, important instructional decision-making (e.g., implementation of targeted intervention) is regularly tied to the results of formative assessments administered to students throughout the academic year. The validity of these instructional decisions depends to an extent on the alignment between formative measures and the content standards on which classroom instruction is based. Specifically, formative assessments must be aligned to adopted content standards in order for teachers to make valid instructional decisions around individual student learning needs. In this technical report, we report on the alignment between easyCBM® grades 3-5 seasonal mathematics benchmark items and the Common Core State Standards (CCSS). Results suggest reasonable alignment to the standards overall, with areas of relatively stronger and weaker alignment across grade level… Continue Reading →

tandfonline.com har udgivet en rapport under søgningen “Teacher Education Mathematics”: ABSTRACT ABSTRACT The article is derived from a larger study of charities, philanthropists, policy entrepreneurs and international businesses in state schooling in Aotearoa New Zealand. The article considers the formation of a private professional services provider, CORE Education, and its recent corporate trajectory following the government’s decision in 2009 to make all School Support Services provision contestable by private providers. CORE Education is an interesting case of schooling privatization because the organizational structure comprises both a not-for-profit charitable educational trust and a wholly owned, for-profit business. CORE’s activities also illustrate the new network governance modality in schooling. In this modality, both bureaucratic and market forms of schooling services delivery are being displaced by fluid networks of domestic and offshore policy… Continue Reading →
