Eric.ed.gov – Intensive Intervention Practice Guide: Motivation Training

eric.ed.gov har udgivet: The National Center for Leadership in Intensive Intervention (NCLII), a consortium funded by the Office of Special Education Programs (OSEP), prepares special education leaders to become experts in research on intensive intervention for students with disabilities who have persistent and severe academic (e.g., reading and math) and behavioral difficulties. By the end of the first year of their program, scholars in each cohort work in cross-institutional collaborative groups to create an Intensive Intervention Practice Guide. In each guide, scholars identify an approach to intensive intervention for a select population of students with disabilities, describe the existing evidence base behind it, and discuss the next steps in research needed to improve the understanding of designing and delivering the intervention. The “Intensive Intervention Practice Guides” are created for practitioners… Continue Reading

Eric.ed.gov – Patterns, Sequences, and Equations (Math and Language/Fine Arts). Module 2. MATHCO Teacher’s Guide.

eric.ed.gov har udgivet: MATHCO is a motivating series of audiovisual and print materials designed to overcome the negative effects of sex bias and stereotyping on the attitudes, interests, and aspirations of girls toward mathematics and mathematics-related careers. The materials teach mathematics skills, demonstrate relationships between mathematics and other subjects, and provide exposure to mathematics-related careers. They are useful for boys as well as girls at the pre- and early-adolescent stage; they are both multiethnic and nonsexist in text and illustrations. Module 2 focuses on patterns, sequences, and equations in language and fine arts as well as in mathematics. The audiovisual script is included, followed by suggested activities and activity work. Eric.ed.gov – Decimals and Percents. Math in Action. Teacher’s Guide & Resource and Duplicatable Blackline WorkMasters.

eric.ed.gov har udgivet: This is the teacher’s guide to an easy-to-read, slower paced mathematics text designed for students who have learning, reading, and language problems. Basic concepts and skills about decimals and percents, including computation with decimals and using proportions to solve percent problems, are presented. All 10 units begin with a brief discussion of how decimals or percents are used in real life. Lessons teach only one major concept on each page, and include comprehension exercises. Sixty-five duplicatable, blackline master worksheets are included in the teacher’s guide. They are organized to correspond with the student’s workbook. Teaching suggestions are briefly presented, as are notes for each page. An answer key for the student’s workbook is included. Comments on teaching students with special needs are also presented. Eric.ed.gov – Word Problems. Math in Action. Teacher’s Guide & Resource.

eric.ed.gov har udgivet: This teacher’s guide was designed to accompany five student workbooks: Math Language, Understanding Word Problems, Using a Calculator, Estimation, and Solving Word Problems. The series was specifically developed for low achieving students. The teaching gradually progresses in difficulty, but concepts are presented in small chunks that students can successfully handle. Questions within the text repeatedly involve the students’ attention, and their learning is checked and reviewed within each lesson. Word problem situations reflect mathematical problems that students would actually do. Following suggestions for how to present and use the workbooks, the guide contains over 200 blackline master worksheets. A description at the bottom of each page states the concept being developed, and the corresponding unit and page in the student’s workbook. Separate introductions are provided for each… Continue Reading

Eric.ed.gov – Enrichment Opportunities Guide. A Resource for Teachers and Students in Math and Science.

eric.ed.gov har udgivet: This guide was developed for two purposes: to enrich science and mathematics programs in schools and to encourage the professional growth of teachers of science and mathematics. A basic premise behind the development of this guide is that all students should have a variety of learning experiences, especially students in categorical programs such as Chapter 1, bilingual, migrant, and other compensatory education programs. These students should see that the study of science is not confined to the classroom but offers a way to investigate and understand the curious phenomena to be found in the every-day world. Similarly, mathematics is not only the scientist’s primary tool but also a world of its own full of curious phenomena. This publication lists contests and fairs for individuals and teams; extracurricular… Continue Reading

Eric.ed.gov – Equity Resource Guide: Weaving Gender Equity into Math Reform.

eric.ed.gov har udgivet: This resource guide presents information on gender equity in mathematics education reform. The project focuses on how issues of gender, ethnicity, socioeconomic status, and language play out in the elementary reform math classroom. The guide is specifically geared toward staff developers and teachers who are implementing new mathematics curricula. The five sections are: (1) an annotated list of relevant research articles and books (education reform, learning patterns, overview, parents, pedagogy, psychology, and strategies for achieving equity); (2) an annotated list of organizations and projects of interest (Internet, CD-ROM, and video); (3) an annotated list of relevant Web sites and other electronic sources; (4) equity tools; and (5) a listing of equity workshops around the country. This guide is a work in progress, with additional sections coming in… Continue Reading
