eric.ed.gov har udgivet: This report presents the results of an experiment conducted in Alabama beginning in the 2006/07 school year, to determine the effectiveness of the Alabama Math, Science, and Technology Initiative (AMSTI), which aims to improve mathematics and science achievement in the state’s K-12 schools. This study is the first randomized controlled trial testing the effectiveness of AMSTI in improving mathematics problem solving and science achievement in upper-elementary and middle schools. AMSTI is an initiative specific to Alabama and was developed and supported through state resources. The team members are working as an agent of change in the U.S. public education system, dramatically improving math and science education for young people. Its AP Training and Incentive Program (APTIP) has already produced impressive results. In the first year, the program schools in its six states produced a 52 percent increase in the number of AP courses passed in math, science, and English (MSE). Eighteen months ago, the National Math and Science Initiative did not exist. Today NMSI is helping lead the country forward in math and science. eric.ed.gov har udgivet: This study explores the effects of a professional development teacher leadership training program on the pedagogical and content development of math and science teacher leaders at the elementary level. The study is qualitative in nature, and the authors collected data using the online survey instrument Survey Monkey. The major implications of the study are twofold: (a) The professional development training that the fellows received enhanced their pedagogical and content knowledge and provided them the necessary experience to be effective teacher leaders; and (b) meaningful teacher leader-teacher relationships have a positive impact on teachers embracing an inquiry-based style of teaching using a Math, Science, and Technology Initiative program. In spring 2015, WestEd administered surveys to understand the perspectives on Common Core State Standards-Mathematics (CCSS-M) implementation of teachers and administrators in eight California school districts participating in the Math in Common (MiC) initiative. Over 1,000 respondents replied to the survey, about some of the initial successes and challenges facing California educators attempting to put in place and support new–and what some consider revolutionary–ideas in U.S. mathematics education.
