This qualitative study focuses on faculty viewpoints with regard to acceleration and compression in developmental math. However, little research has examined variation in the long-term effects of teachers with similar value-added performance. In this study, we investigate variation in the persistence of teachers’ value-added effects on student achievement in New York City. We separate persistent effects into general effects that improve both the subject taught (math or English language arts (ELA)) and the other area of measured achievement and subject-specific effects which improve only the subject taught. This study investigated problem solving process of in-service secondary school teachers in a non-routine problem context. The study was made in the academic year of 2006-2007, Fall Semester, at Necatibey Faculty of Education, Balikesir University. 229 first and second-year students at the Dept of Primary Math Teaching have been participated in the study. 70% of the prospective mathematics teachers have been found to be fixed in problem solving.
