eric.ed.gov har udgivet: Designed to assist the classroom teacher interested in implementing career education, this guide presents lesson plans, prepared by public school teachers, which integrate career education activities. Learner objectives, which provide a base for implementation plans, are listed in the introductory section and relate to self-knowledge, decisionmaking skills, career awareness, economic awareness, educational awareness, attitudes and appreciation, and social awareness. Each lesson plan is presented in the following format: Grade or IGE unit, subject, educational concept, elements and element objectives, activities, resources, and followup activities. The lesson plans cover the units of math (grades 9-10); Spanish (grades 9-12); home economics (grades 9-12); agriculture (grades 9-12); physical education (grades 9-12); biology (grade 10); social studies (grades 9-12); math, geometry, algebra (grades 9-12); distributive education (grade 11); French I and… Continue Reading →

eric.ed.gov har udgivet: The Eisenhower Pre-Service Teacher Education Project was developed by the University of Central Florida, the five community colleges in Region III of the Higher Education Consortium, and the private college and universities in the same region to design curriculum changes to improve the preparation of elementary and secondary math and science teachers. Faculty members at participating institutions developed projects designed to both improve the math and science content knowledge of pre-service teachers, as well as teaching methods in undergraduate math and science courses. Funded projects included the following: (1) the introduction of “hands-on” activities into college Astronomy and Oceanography courses; (2) the identification of potential K-12 pre-service teachers during their freshman and sophomore years to improve their math and science backgrounds; (3) the development of a field… Continue Reading →

eric.ed.gov har udgivet: This document points out the numbers of students who have difficulty in their required college mathematics courses. The four common syndromes identified with pupils who were experiencing a lack of success in mathematics were: (1) a lack of an adequate college or high school background in mathematics; (2) the tendency to feel that because they completed homework problems they really “knew their mathematics,”; (3) the inability to apply appropriate reading-learning strategies to their mathematics studies; and (4) a feeling of hostility over mathematics classes and anxiety over tests. These students are referred to as “underdeveloped learners,” who did not know how to study and learn mathematics. Twelve learning strategies that students should learn to apply are listed and described. A remediation strategy for these pupils that combines… Continue Reading →

eric.ed.gov har udgivet: This guide presents math-focused learning projects and accompanying inquiry activities to help students pass the math portion of the GED 2002. It is Volume 2 of a proposed four-volume series; Volume 1 describing the concept of the GED as project is also available. Section 1 relates GED as project to the math portion of the GED and explains how inquiry activities use Official GED Math Practice Test questions as stimuli and can serve as models for teacher-designed activities. It introduces the template for math inquiry activities, a series of steps and questions that fulfill the learner-centered thinking and process this guide proposes. Section 2 is an introductory learning project that helps learners comprehend and internalize information about the GED, “GED Math and You.” The two inquiry activities… Continue Reading →

eric.ed.gov har udgivet: This volume contains three teacher-developed units for eleventh grade mathematics students. It serves as an introduction to logarithms, matrices, and functions. Units include statements of objectives, content discussions, worksheets, and exercises. In the logarithm unit the emphasis is on calculation, while in the matrices and functions units development and proof are considered as well. Related volumes in the series are SE 016 615, SE 016 617, and SE 016 618. (LS) Link til kilde

eric.ed.gov har udgivet: In a series of mathematics education workshops in which teachers from adult basic education and vocational education worked together to design teaching situations on particular contents in mathematics in order to make explicit and bring into reflection the teaching strategies used by each group. The workshops constituted a common space of interaction for jointly designing teaching situations and creating common discourses that narrowed the distance between normative curriculum and actual teaching or real curriculum. In order for adult educators to teach effectively they must fulfill the following conditions: (1) they must provide a context for the teaching; (2) the knowledge taught must constitute a solution adapted to the problem; (3) there must be didactic variables that lead to the development of logic in a fruitful way; and… Continue Reading →

eric.ed.gov har udgivet: The guide, developed as part of an exemplary program for junior high school students, presents a plan for science and mathematics activities for grades seven and eight which aims at researching occupations which stem from experience students obtain in the general classroom curriculum. The unit is designed to operate in three stages: preparation of career backgrounds with students, completion of the career description form after the research field trip, and completion of the occupational interview sheets and reports to the class. The guide includes lists of objectives, preparation steps, activities (general and specific for science and math), and a discussion of results and evaluation. It also includes a sample interview sheet and career card. (JR) Link til kilde
